Blender’s Notes Liver Support ~ Micro-Nutrition:
Steep Me Micro-Nutrition combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits of different combinations of Vitamins and Minerals. This combination of herbs helps the liver do better Liver things! The liver has a myriad of physiological functions, a healthy liver supports a healthy body overall. The liver oversees processing hemoglobin, storing iron, clearing blood of toxins, and aiding natural detoxification pathways. For these reasons—and many more—the liver needs to be in decent shape so that it can function at its best. Vitamins can help a liver do its many jobs effectively. For example, it is the liver itself that metabolizes fat-soluble vitamins. The liver is also responsible for storing vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12, and the minerals iron and copper as well. Liver injury and disease can have profound effects on overall health, so keeping your liver in tip-top shape is critical. The liver has a number of essential functions, some of the main ones being ~~ Detoxification of heavy metals and potentially toxic chemicals that originate from both inside and outside of the body including drugs, alcohol, and toxins from intestinal microbes. This is accomplished with antioxidant nutrients and enzymes. The liver detoxifies harmful substances by a complex series of chemical reactions. The role of the various enzyme activities in the liver is to convert toxins into water soluble substances that can be excreted in the urine or the bile depending on the characteristics of the product. ~~ Storage of sugar as ‘glycogen’ and the conversion of glycogen to glucose when blood sugar levels drop. The liver is vital to the regulation of blood sugar levels. ~~ Production and storage of proteins as well as the regulation of many substances involved in protein metabolism. This affects hormonal balance and brain chemistry because protein is required to build hormones and brain chemicals. It is also required for body repair and immune function. ~~ Production of bile which is essential for the digestion of fats and protein. Bile is the primary excretion tool for many of the chemical and hormonal wastes our bodies need to remove daily. ~~ Production of blood proteins, clotting factors, and substances important to the production of red blood cells. ~~ Regulation and detoxification of a number of hormones. Neutralization of free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can damage tissues, mitochondria, and DNA. ~~ Storage of vitamins and minerals, iron, copper, B12, vitamins A, D, E and K. Digestion. The liver plays a key role in digestion (breaking nutrients down). ~~ Repair. It is involved with assimilation (building up body tissues). ~~ Recycling. Red blood cells, which are responsible for carrying oxygen around the body, are recycled in the liver.
In this blend we added Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle contains phytonutrients that support liver and kidney detoxification—like silymarin, a major active bioactive that allows milk thistle to balance antioxidants and healthy inflammatory response. Milk thistle supports a healthy inflammatory response at the cellular level in the liver. It blocks toxins, too, by inhibiting the binding of toxins to liver cells. As the liver is responsible for filtering toxins out so they can be removed from the body via bile, milk thistle plays an essential role. Milk Thistle also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may support the function of the liver. It can help reduce irritation caused by everyday oxidative stress and toxins. It can also help support liver function, thus helping your metabolic process run more efficiently and help healthy weight management. We also added Dandelion. Dandelion can be used as a liver tonic, a medicinal substance that can boost vitality. It has antioxidant properties that help protect the liver against oxidative stress. Dandelion root is also a type of digestive bitter, a substance that stimulates bile production and enhances bile flow from the liver. Adequate bile production is important for proper digestion of fats and the elimination of toxins and waste products from the liver. Bitters work their digestive magic by stimulating the release of the digestive hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) which stimulates bile flow from the liver and gallbladder as well as digestive enzyme release pancreas. Next, we added Artichoke. Artichoke can provide antioxidant-like protection and works as a digestive bitter to support liver health and bile flow. It has been shown that artichoke leaf supplementation can decrease fat in the liver and support metabolic markers. Two major polyphenols in artichoke leaves are luteolin and chlorogenic acid. These compounds help protect the liver against oxidative stress. Artichoke leaf extract can boost antioxidant enzymes in the liver, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. We added Selenium as another important antioxidant mineral that supports the body’s natural detoxification by quenching free radicals, regulating the antioxidant-oxidant balance, and supporting antioxidant enzymes. In addition to combating oxidative stress, selenium can help reduce the toxicity of heavy metal (e.g., cadmium and mercury) and promote their removal from the body. This powerful mineral is vital for helping your liver cleanse and detox itself. It can help your liver detox from unhealthy buildup by encouraging the production of an antioxidant called glutathione, which can help support healthy liver tissue cells and promote elasticity. As a Copartner with Selenium, we added Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a group of eight fat-soluble compounds that form a powerful antioxidant that can break the chain reactions of oxidative stress that can occur from free radicals. It is needed for proper immune function and cellular signaling, and evidence shows therapeutic benefit on liver health. People with NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and NASH (a type of NAFLD known as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) have low levels of vitamin E in their blood, a result of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a damaging imbalance in the body that happens when you do not have enough antioxidants to neutralize other molecules called free radicals. This harms cells and can occur from alcohol, drugs, and other factors. Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, helps to balance antioxidants and free radicals.
This blend also includes Vitamin C. Vitamin C improves liver and gut health, restores antioxidant levels, improves glucose metabolism, decreases hepatic lipid accumulation, and is part of the detoxification process, supports the total antioxidant capacity needed for healthy liver function by addressing everyday internal stressors and promoting the body’s natural detoxification processes. A lack of vitamin C can impair the detoxification process and can also prevent free radical formation. We also added Berberine. It is a natural supplement that is safe and effective at managing blood sugar levels, promoting cardiovascular health, supporting healthy weight management, and promoting gut health. Additionally, berberine has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. It may help with weight loss, diabetes, infections, canker sores, and PCOS. It may promote normal triglyceride and blood sugar levels, boosting your liver, brain, and gut health. Berberine not only may deter anxiety or depression but also may boost memory and learning. It has been shown to lower blood sugar, increase weight loss, and improve heart health. It may also be linked to other benefits and could aid in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). By promoting normal fat levels in the blood, berberine keeps fat from accumulating in the liver. Berberine seems to influence genes that control liver metabolism, helping it function more effectively. It may help to prevent the progression of fatty liver to cirrhosis of the liver. Cirrhosis occurs when there is a large amount of scar tissue (fibrosis) inside the liver. This recent study showed that berberine significantly reduced liver inflammation, fibrosis, and lipid peroxides (oxidation of fat within the liver). If you have a fatty liver or cirrhosis, you may wish to consider taking a berberine supplement to protect your liver. Jujube has been added because it contains vitamins A, B and C, as well as the minerals calcium and potassium. Other important compounds include flavonoids and short-chain fatty acids. Jujube has polysaccharides from an extract of jujube are effective in killing cancer cells and are rich in several antioxidant compounds, primarily flavonoids, polysaccharides, and triterpene acids. They also contain prominent levels of vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant as well. Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent, and reverse damage caused by excess free radicals, and it can help reduce stress and inflammation caused by free radical damage in the liver.
We added Choline because it has a vitamin-like compound that engages in the metabolism of fats in the liver. It aids in the transport and metabolism of dietary fats and cholesterol, helping to manage the transportation of fats from the liver. Choline is a major component of phosphatidylcholine, a compound essential for cell structure and function including liver cells. Choline is also an ingredient needed for bile acid production which supports digestion and transportation of fats. Beet Root is a vegetable that is associated with liver and gallbladder health. They are rich in antioxidants and help protect the liver against oxidative stress. Another major benefit of beets is that they are a natural source of nitrates, which can be converted into nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide helps relax and dilate blood vessels, improving blood flow and oxygen delivery to the liver. This enhanced blood flow can support optimal liver functioning. We also added Vitamin D-3. Vitamin D-3 can help modulate healthy inflammatory pathways in the liver and bolsters liver function via vitamin D receptors (VDRs). It is an essential nutrient that is well known for its roles in maintaining healthy bones, calcium homeostasis, and mineral metabolism. Vitamin D may support liver health with insulin regulation. Healthy insulin and blood sugar regulation is essential for maintaining liver health. It can help prevent inflammatory and metabolic liver disease. A complication of chronic liver disease is osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to weaken, making patients more susceptible to fractures. We also added our Steep Me B Vitamin Blend because it helps promote healthy liver function by enhancing the function of liver enzymes, help liver’s detoxification processes, B vitamins can help reverse many symptoms of liver disease in its initial stages. Liver disease can cause vitamin B-1, B-6, and B-12 deficiencies. A large vitamin B-1 deficiency can cause a decline in mental abilities, such as coordination and memory, a vitamin B-6 deficiency can cause tingling and numbness from nerve damage, and a vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, a condition where a person’s red blood cell count is less than normal, addition to similar symptoms from not enough vitamin B-1 and B-6. About 90% of vitamin B12 is stored in the liver. When the liver becomes damaged, the levels of vitamin B12 decrease. Zinc has shown that it can help protect your liver from future stress, by reducing the lipid (or fat) buildup in your liver. Zinc plays a role in liver detoxification and tissue repair and may help support the liver’s ability to regenerate damaged tissue. In this blend we added NAC. NAC is an important antioxidant that supports liver detox, it has the power of promoting oxidative balance in the liver. NAC supports liver detoxification efforts and aids in glutathione synthesis, therefore promoting healthy immune and detoxification systems. NAC helps to combat free radicals and improve redox status throughout the body. NAC helps reduce oxidative stress in the liver to keep your immune system, cells, and tissues in check. It is also a basic building block of glutathione, which has been called “the mother of all antioxidants. NAC may help reduce cravings by replenishing glutathione, an antioxidant that alcohol use can deplete. And finally, we added our Steep Me Medical Mushroom Blend to protect the liver from damage by acetaminophen and other potentially toxic chemicals and reduce the damage that a high fat diet can do to the liver and may even lend some protection against diabetic effects on the liver. The mushrooms assist in controlling blood glucose levels, modulation of the immune system, offer liver protection, and help the body maintain optimal levels of bacteria. The mushrooms contain carbohydrates, fat, fiber, and protein along with some vitamins and minerals, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, selenium, iron, zinc, and copper. The bioactive molecules found in the mushroom are terpenoids, steroids, phenols, nucleotides and their derivatives, glycoproteins, and polysaccharides. Polysaccharides, which make up about 8% of the mushroom, have several health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antiulcer, anti-tumorigenic, and immune stimulating effects. Terpenes have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumorigenic, and lipid-lowering properties.
