Blender’s Notes Gestational Diabetes ~ Tummy Tamer ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a terrific way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All our teas go through a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more evaluating the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
With this blend we are addressing the uncomfortable tummy issues that can come with a diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes. This blend is a bit different they our Tummy Tamer to ensure we are helping with blood sugars to make you feel better. Gestational diabetes (GD or GDM) is a type of diabetes that develops exclusively in pregnancy when blood sugar levels get too high (hyperglycemia). It happens when the hormones from the placenta block your ability to use or make insulin. Insulin helps your body maintain the right amount of glucose in your blood. Too much glucose in your blood can lead to pregnancy complications. GD usually appears during the middle of pregnancy, between 24 and 28 weeks. Your pregnancy care provider will order a blood test to check for gestational diabetes. Developing GD doesn’t mean you already have diabetes before you got pregnant. The condition appears because of pregnancy. People with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes before pregnancy have their own, separate challenges when they become pregnant. Gestational diabetes comes from hormonal changes and the way your body converts food into energy. A hormone called insulin breaks down the glucose (sugar) from food and delivers it to your cells. Insulin keeps the level of glucose in your blood at a healthy level. But if insulin does not work right or you do not have enough of it, sugar builds up in your blood and leads to diabetes. During pregnancy, hormones from the placenta can interfere with the way insulin works. It may not regulate your blood sugar levels like it is supposed to, which can lead to gestational diabetes. Gestational Diabetes: Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
In this blend we included Ginger. Ginger helps prevent morning sickness in pregnant people, as well as nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy. Plus, ginger can reduce gas, bloating, cramps, and indigestion while also supporting bowel regularity. Ginger works because it contains gingerols and shogaols, the primary pungent properties that give ginger its spicy flavor and odor as well as its antiemetic and anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger can help improve blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity in women with gestational diabetes. and may lead to significant reductions in fasting blood sugar and insulin levels in women with gestational diabetes. Next, we included Apple. Apple helps you rid your body of toxins faster and the fiber also slows and eases digestion, which relieves nausea and natural sugars which help settle your stomach. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, which can help manage blood sugar levels and support overall health. Lemon was also added because it is a cure-all for morning sickness and heartburn but works to ease most other types of nausea and remove toxins from your body. The citric acid in lemons may help your body metabolize sugar more efficiently which helps lower blood sugar levels. Peppermint because it treats stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. The menthol in peppermint has muscle-relaxing properties that can soothe the digestive system and reduce feelings of nausea. Next, we added Fennel. Fennel has antibacterial properties and has been shown to decrease conditions like nausea and promote bowel regularity. Finally, we added Lemon Balm Lemon Balm is lemon-scented herb in the mint family that contains a compound known as rosmarinic acid that has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Antioxidants help prevent cell damage. Antimicrobials kill infection-causing organisms like bacteria and viruses, and both are great ways to manage nausea. It also contains a compound called rosmarinic acid, which can help regulate blood sugar levels. This may be beneficial for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy.
Next, we included Lemon Grass. Lemongrass has been traditionally used to help with nausea and other gastrointestinal issues. It is known for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for relieving stomach discomfort and cramps. Chamomile was added because it is known for its calming properties and has been traditionally used to ease nausea. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can help improve glycemic control and reduce oxidative stress, which are crucial factors in managing gestational diabetes. Astragaloside IV is a component of Astragalus, can help control blood glucose levels and reduce inflammation, which is beneficial for pregnant women with gestational diabetes. It works by targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome, which plays a role in insulin resistance. Cinnamon because it may improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels, which could be beneficial for managing gestational diabetes. Finally, we added a bit of Dandelion Root. its detoxifying properties and high nutrient content, including vitamins A, C, and K. and may help with digestion and liver health, which can be particularly relevant during pregnancy.
