Blender’s Notes Circulation ~ Raynaud’s:

Steep Me Self-Help Tea combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs was built to help build back your circulation into your lower extremities! A healthy circulatory system supports the entire body with blood and oxygen and is essential for long-term health. Research shows that poor circulation can lead to heart disease. Blood circulation and heart health go together. Most diseases that develop from poor circulation affect the heart. 17% of cardiovascular diseases in the US occur from stroke, and 100,000 people in the US die from blood clots each year. Narrowed blood vessels, blood clots, and plaque buildup are all major causes of poor circulation. These causes are often the result of high blood pressure and high LDL cholesterol levels. Having high blood pressure, or hypertension, can cause stress on the heart and the arterial walls to harden, which prevents adequate blood flow throughout the body. Conversely, low blood pressure, or hypotension, can also cause an imbalance in blood flow causing a shortage of oxygen and nutrients in cells, tissues, and organs. High LDL cholesterol levels, or hypercholesterolemia, cause fat to stick and harden to artery and vein walls. Over time, it hardens into plaque causing a blockage in the blood vessel and the consequent prevention of blood flow. This blockage is what may cause a stroke. Reducing blood lipid levels and relaxing the arteries are two of the primary ways to improve circulation.

Some common symptoms of circulatory issues include Muscle pain, Issues with mobility, Pale or blue skin, Varicose veins, Cold extremities, Chest pain, Numbness & swelling. Diseases that arise from unhealthy circulation conditions can affect various parts of the body but mostly they negatively affect the heart. These diseases include Peripheral arterial disease, Peripheral vascular disease, Raynaud’s syndrome, Myocardial infarction, Hypertension, Stroke, Blood clots, Anemia. Raynaud’s disease is a rare and unusual disorder that affects the blood vessels, in the fingers and toes. Raynaud’s syndrome involves vasospasms of small blood vessels, especially in fingers and toes, triggered by cold or stress. This leads to color changes (white → blue → red), numbness, and tingling  the hyperactivation of the sympathetic nervous system causes blood vessels to become constricted when you are stressed or cold. This results in blood not reaching the surface of the skin and the areas turning white or blue. When the blood starts flowing, the skin becomes red and can also lead to tissue death. Primary Raynaud’s is another name for Raynaud’s disease, which is idiopathic in nature and has no known cause. There is also secondary Raynaud’s or Raynaud’s phenomenon, which is caused by trauma, other health conditions, or medications. This disorder of your blood vessels reduces flow to your fingers, toes, and other extremities. Raynaud’s syndrome affects an estimated 15 to 30 million Americans or between 5 and 10-percent of the population. Many symptoms include intense sensitivity to cold temperatures, throbbing pain, numbness, spasm, and color changes to the skin. 8 Effective Home Remedies for Raynaud’s Disease | Organic Facts

In this blend we included Black Pepper, Turmeric Root, Cayenne Pepper & Ginger Root. Black pepper’s active compound piperine supports circulation by improving blood flow, reducing inflammation, and enhancing nutrient absorption. Piperine may help raise HDL (“good” cholesterol) and lower LDL (“bad” cholesterol), reducing arterial plaque buildup and improving blood flow. Piperine has been shown to reduce inflammatory signaling, which can benefit vascular health and conditions linked to chronic inflammation. Black pepper is rich in antioxidants that neutralize free radicals, protecting blood vessels from oxidative stress and it stimulates hydrochloric acid secretion, improving digestion and nutrient absorption—especially of compounds like curcumin from turmeric. Turmeric root, rich in curcumin, supports circulation by reducing inflammation, protecting blood vessels, and improving endothelial function. Curcumin inhibits NF-κB and COX-2 pathways, reducing chronic inflammation and it neutralizes free radicals and boosts the body’s own antioxidant enzymes. Turmeric Root improves endothelial function, lowers LDL cholesterol, and may reduce arterial plaque buildup and can reduce platelet aggregation, lowering clot risk. Turmeric has also shown to reduce symptoms of arthritis and muscle soreness. In Turmeric, the curcumin reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in blood vessels, helping maintain elasticity. Turmeric supports nitric oxide production, which relaxes blood vessels, improves circulation, and reduces microvascular blockages that worsen Raynaud’s symptoms. It combines well with black pepper (piperine enhances curcumin absorption), ginger, and cayenne for circulation support which are included in this blend. Cayenne pepper, rich in capsaicin, supports circulation by dilating blood vessels, reducing clot risk, and improving peripheral blood flow. Capsaicin improves blood flow and reduces platelet aggregation, lowering the risk of blood clots and it relaxes blood vessels, which can help lower blood pressure and enhance peripheral circulation. Capsaicin reduces inflammatory signaling, supporting vascular and joint health and it stimulates blood flow to extremities, potentially reducing vasospasm severity. By lowering platelet aggregation, cayenne may reduce microvascular blockages that worsen Raynaud’s. It combines well with ginger and black pepper to enhance circulation ~ which are included in this blend. Antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds help maintain healthier blood vessels, which is crucial for Raynaud’s management. Ginger roots contain gingerol and related compounds that improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and support vascular health. Gingerol reduces oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines, protecting blood vessels and is shown to ease osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and menstrual pain. Ginger improves peripheral blood flow, which may reduce vasospasm severity. By lowering vascular inflammation, ginger helps maintain healthier blood vessels and protects endothelial cells from oxidative stress, which is important in Raynaud’s. Ginger combines well with cayenne, cinnamon, and black pepper to enhance circulation which are included in this blend! Thyme contains thymol and other compounds that support cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation. Thyme’s iron and mineral content encourage red blood cell production, improving oxygen delivery and circulation. Thyme contains Potassium which acts as a vasodilator, helping relax blood vessels and reduce stress on the heart. Thyme  can ease coughs, bronchitis, and congestion due to its expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties. Thymol has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activity, supporting immune defense. Potassium and thymol may help relax blood vessels, improving peripheral circulation. It protects endothelial cells from oxidative stress and inflammation, which are key contributors to vascular dysfunction. Thyme also encourages red blood cell production, improving oxygen delivery to extremities. Thyme combines well with ginger, cayenne, and black pepper to enhance circulation and warmth in extremities which are all included in this blend.

Next, we included Bacopa. Bacopa (Bacopa monnieri, also called Brahmi) is best known for its brain-boosting and stress-reducing effects, but it also offers antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and circulatory support. Bacosides neutralizes free radicals and prevents lipid peroxidation, protecting blood vessels and brain cells and it suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines, reducing vascular and systemic inflammation. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects help maintain endothelial health, reducing vessel reactivity with Bacopa. Because Bacopa can help lower anxiety and balancing neurotransmitters, it  reduces stress-induced vasospasms. Bacopa is not a “warming” herb like ginger or cayenne, but it complements them by reducing oxidative stress and nervous system over-reactivity. Epimedium (Epimedium spp., often called “Horny Goat Weed”) was added because it contains icariin and related flavonoids that support vascular health, improve nitric oxide signaling, and enhance circulation. Epimedium has a long history in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a kidney and yang tonic. Modern research highlights several mechanisms:  In Epimedium, it contains Icariin which increases nitric oxide production, relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow. It also helps reduce vascular resistance, supporting circulation and lowering blood pressure. Epimedium suppresses inflammatory cytokines, protecting vascular and joint health and neutralizes free radicals, reducing oxidative stress in blood vessels. Epimedium could reduce the frequency or severity of vasospasms by relaxing small arteries. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that help maintain vascular integrity and by improving circulation and vascular tone, Epimedium may help reduce cold-induced attacks. It works well alongside ginger, cayenne, and black pepper, which directly warm and stimulate peripheral blood flow which is included in this blend. We also included Gingko Biloba. Ginkgo biloba supports circulation by improving blood flow, reducing inflammation, and protecting blood vessels. Ginkgo increases nitric oxide levels, which dilates blood vessels and enhances blood flow. Gingko is rich in flavonoids and terpenoids, ginkgo neutralizes free radicals that damage blood vessels. Ginkgo reduces inflammatory markers, supporting vascular and systemic health. By boosting nitric oxide, ginkgo relaxes blood vessels, potentially reducing vasospasm severity and its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects help maintain vascular integrity. Improved blood flow may reduce cold-induced attacks and enhance oxygen delivery to extremities and ginkgo complements ginger, cayenne, and black pepper, which directly stimulate peripheral circulation which are included in this blend. We also added in Butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus) because it is a vascular-supportive herb traditionally used for venous insufficiency, varicose veins, and circulation problems. Its active compounds (ruscogenins) strengthen blood vessels, reduce inflammation, and improve venous tone. Butcher’s Broom strengthens vein walls and improves venous tone, often used for varicose veins and hemorrhoids and ruscogenins reduce vascular inflammation, supporting healthier blood vessels. Butcher’s Broom enhances microcirculation and reduces pooling of blood in extremities while it helps decrease swelling in legs and ankles by improving lymphatic drainage. Plus, it contains flavonoids that protect endothelial cells from oxidative stress. Butcher’s Broom helps by strengthening vessel walls and improving elasticity, butcher’s broom may reduce excessive vasospasms while it enhances blood flow to extremities, potentially reducing cold-induced attacks. It protects endothelial cells, which are often stressed in Raynaud’s plus it works well alongside ginger, cayenne, and ginkgo, which directly stimulate peripheral circulation which are included in this blend.

Chickweed was also added. Chickweed (Stellaria media) is nutrient-rich and traditionally used for inflammation, wound healing, and respiratory support. Chickweed is high in vitamins C, A, E, K, and B-complex, plus minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron and is a great remedy for swollen joints, skin irritation, and respiratory inflammation. Chickweed also contains  flavonoids, tocopherols, and phytosterols that help neutralize free radicals. Its iron and magnesium aid red blood cell production and vascular relaxation, supporting oxygen delivery. Chickweed may help protect endothelial cells from stress and inflammation, reducing vessel reactivity. It contains potassium that contributes to vasodilation, which can improve peripheral blood flow. Chickweed is cooling by nature, so it pairs well with warming circulatory herbs (ginger, cayenne, black pepper) to balance vascular tone which are included in this blend. Steep Me Medicinal Mushroom Blend we also included. These mushrooms are a powerful adaptogen and immune modulator and contain bioactive compounds (triterpenes, polysaccharides, and antioxidants) which support vascular health, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation and are nutrient-rich fungi that support cardiovascular health, immunity, and circulation. These mushrooms help  improves endothelial function, lowers blood pressure, and may reduce cholesterol by altering lipid metabolism. Plus, they contain Beta-glucans reduce LDL cholesterol and improve arterial health. Steep Me Mushroom Blend contains Triterpenes suppress inflammatory cytokines, protecting vascular and systemic health. Rich in polyphenols and selenium, which protect endothelial cells from oxidative stress and Polysaccharides and phenolic compounds neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress in blood vessels. These mushrooms strengthen immune function and balances overactive immune responses, useful in autoimmune-linked Raynaud’s and they contain Lentinan enhances immune function and may help balance overactive immune responses. These mushrooms contain nutrients like copper, manganese, and iron support red blood cell production and vascular tone and reduce platelet aggregation, lowering clot risk. Adaptogenic effects calm the nervous system, lowering stress-induced vasospasms. Improved blood flow and reduced platelet aggregation with Iron and copper aid red blood cell production –  may enhance oxygen delivery to extremities. These mushrooms are more balanced than warming, so they pair well with ginger, cayenne, and ginkgo for circulation support which are included in this blend. Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is traditionally used as a nervine and aphrodisiac, but it also offers circulatory and vascular support through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and mild vasodilatory properties. Damiana is  used to calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. It also contains flavonoids and terpenes that may relax blood vessels and improve peripheral blood flow, and it can help reduce vascular inflammation, supporting healthier arteries and veins. Damiana neutralizes free radicals, protecting endothelial cells from oxidative stress and its flavonoids may relax vascular smooth muscle, improving blood flow to extremities. By reducing stress and anxiety, damiana may help prevent stress-induced vasospasms. Damiana’s antioxidant compounds support vascular integrity, reducing reactivity to cold or stress. Damiana complements circulation-enhancing herbs like ginger, cayenne, and ginkgo by adding nervous system balance and vascular relaxation which are included in this blend.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng and Panax quinquefolius) is a powerful adaptogen that supports vascular health, circulation, and stress resilience. Its active compounds (ginsenosides) improve nitric oxide production, reduce inflammation, and protect blood vessels. Ginsenosides stimulate nitric oxide synthesis, relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow. Ginseng helps lower blood pressure, reduce arterial stiffness, and improve lipid profiles while it suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines, protecting vascular and systemic health. Ginseng enhances resilience to stress, which is important since stress can trigger Raynaud’s attacks. It also strengthens immune function and reduces fatigue. It improves vascular relaxation, potentially reducing the frequency or severity of vasospasms. Ginseng helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, lowering stress-induced vascular reactivity. Improved blood flow may reduce cold-induced attacks and enhance oxygen delivery to extremities and Ginseng pairs well with ginger, cayenne, and black pepper, which directly stimulate peripheral circulation which are included in this blend. And finally, we added Yohimbe. Yohimbe (Pausinystalia johimbe) contains the alkaloid yohimbine, which is a potent vasodilator and nervous system stimulant. It can improve blood flow by dilating blood vessels and increasing circulation. Yohimbine blocks alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to vessel relaxation and improved blood flow. Yohimbe increases norepinephrine release, which can enhance alertness and energy, and it may increase lipolysis (fat breakdown) by stimulating adrenergic pathways. By blocking alpha-2 receptors, yohimbine increases blood flow to extremities, which could reduce vasospasm severity and enhance microcirculation and oxygen delivery to tissues.

When talking about the many types of tea, Tisane (Herbal Infusion) or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is really not tea at all.  It is made like a tea and all the same items are used to make it, but it does not contain the Camellia Sinensis Plant (unless stated), but is simply roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits put together is a combination that is made just like a tea.  With that being said…the health benefits of a Tisane or Herbal teas are different.  They can vary depending on the ingredients and combination of herbs so there are no blanket health benefits – just depends on the ingredients.

For many, the best part of Tisane or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is the fact that it is caffeine free naturally.  Of course there are herbs that can be added to change that.  The most popular Herbal teas include Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and any combination of fruit blends or infusions.  Our Self-Help Teas are simply supplemental herbal combinations to aid with an occasional ailment specific to what may be happening in your life.  The teas are built to work and are not build with any specific flavorings.  The blends are tested to the minimum requirements laid out by Steep Me A Cup of Tea.  The taste provided is natural to the herbs present in the blend.  No flavorings added.
