Blender’s Notes SinuSoothe Cough ~ Throat ~ Sinus Syrup:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs and oils has come about with a strong initiative to create great soothing syrup that can help coat the throat, clear the sinuses, and help with a nagging cough. Coughing is a reflex action that aims to clear your throat of irritating substances such as mucus. It is normal to cough occasionally, even when you are not sick or there is no specific reason for it. We keep this blend chilled as it really is effective in how it feels for the throat and the sinuses. This blend can be used for all ages and does not contain any alcohol.
We based this combination on Lemon Juice and Organic Olive Oil. With this base we added our herbs and oils. In this blend we used Licorice Root. Licorice Root is a demulcent herb that contains polysaccharides that contribute to its soothing, demulcent quality, and is ideal for afflictions that are hot and dry such as sore throats related to bronchitis, dry coughs, and gastric irritation. Licorice is considered specific for any inflammation in the mucous membranes throughout the body and relieves painful, unproductive coughing, while its relaxing expectorant action helps to express viscous, congestive mucus from the lungs. Next, we added Juniper Berry. Juniper Berry is rich in antioxidants, which fight off inflammation and may prevent the development of serious diseases. It has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, so it can boost your immunity and help treat infections. Menthol was added because it has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with reducing the respiratory inflammation often associated with coughing. Menthol is effective in reducing cough and cold symptoms. Ginger was added because it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that have been used to relieve coughs and colds. Ginger can also be used against many respiratory issues because it contains gingerol and shogaol, which are the main active ingredients related to its health benefits. They are antimicrobial compounds that help with fighting the viruses causing cough and sore throat. It has a high concentration of antioxidants that help your body with getting rid of pathogens by boosting your immune system. Its anti-inflammatory properties may help with chest and throat inflammation associated with cough. It stimulates mucus secretion which helps in clearing your airways from mucus and relieves the irritation that causes coughing. It is an expectorant, meaning it helps with loosening and ejecting mucus from your lungs and unclogging your sinuses. We also included Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is useful in improving coughs and symptoms of other upper respiratory tract infections because it is a natural expectorant that can help to loosen mucus. Frankincense was added because it has been used to treat bronchitis and asthma for centuries. Its compounds may prevent the production of leukotrienes, which cause the bronchial muscles to constrict in asthma. Frankincense can help reduce inflammation and mucus overproduction in people with respiratory concerns.
Next, we added Feverfew. Feverfew is an anti-inflammatory and has been used thousands of years to prevent pain throughout the body and has been used to break and eliminate fevers. It can help to promote sweating and eliminate toxins from the body, speeding the healing process and reducing inflammation. The soothing ability of feverfew also extends to the respiratory tract, where this herb can reduce inflammation and irritation, which can often exacerbate conditions like asthma or coughing. By allowing the respiratory tracts to relax, it can help soothe these symptoms and improve overall respiratory health. English Ivy was included because of its high concentrations of protective plant compounds called saponins and flavonoids, which can fight oxidative stress/free radical damage and inflammation. Next, we added Hyssop. Hyssop is antispasmodic, meaning it relieves spasms in the respiratory system and soothes coughs. It is also an expectorant — it loosens phlegm that has been deposited in the respiratory tracts. This property helps heal infections from the common cold, and it helps treat respiratory conditions, such as serving as a bronchitis and a remedy for sore throats. Thyme was also added. Thyme has a component called thymol, which are antimicrobial against many distinct kinds of bacteria including those involved in upper respiratory infections and contribute to thyme’s expectorant, antispasmodic, bronchodilating, diaphoretic, and anticatarrhal qualities. Thyme has long been favored for breathing difficulties and to support resolution of colds, the flu, and other lower and upper respiratory tract infections. In addition, the herb has an opening influence upon the sinuses, where its warming and drying nature helps to clear congestion. Holy Basil was added because it has great healing benefits including reducing oxidative stress, supporting liver health, protecting against skin aging, reducing high blood sugar, supporting cardiovascular health, boosting mental health, reducing inflammation, and swelling and combatting infection. Finally, we add Honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is cooling in that it is often used to clear built up heat in the body (specifically with fevers, infections, and skin inflammations), to aid the liver and lymphatic system in detoxification, and to relax the nervous system and decrease inflammation in and on the body. It is drying in that it helps to thin mucus so it can be coughed up easily, it is often used for infections, specifically those in the respiratory, digestive, and urinary tracts as well as the skin. Honeysuckle is also useful in soothing spasms in the digestive and respiratory tract.

When talking about the many types of tea, Tisane (Herbal Infusion) or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is really not tea at all. It is made like a tea and all the same items are used to make it, but it does not contain the Camellia Sinensis Plant (unless stated), but is simply roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits put together is a combination that is made just like a tea. With that being said…the health benefits of a Tisane or Herbal teas are different. They can vary depending on the ingredients and combination of herbs so there are no blanket health benefits – just depends on the ingredients.
For many, the best part of Tisane or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is the fact that it is caffeine free naturally. Of course there are herbs that can be added to change that. The most popular Herbal teas include Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and any combination of fruit blends or infusions. Our Self-Help Teas are simply supplemental herbal combinations to aid with an occasional ailment specific to what may be happening in your life. The teas are built to work and are not build with any specific flavorings. The blends are tested to the minimum requirements laid out by Steep Me A Cup of Tea. The taste provided is natural to the herbs present in the blend. No flavorings added.
