Blender’s Notes VitaliTEA ~ Inflammation & Golden Milk:
Steep Me Self Help combinations are a fantastic way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs was built to help with overall inflammation. Our VitaliTEA (golden milk) contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds and may offer health benefits. These can include protection against certain diseases. The key ingredient in golden milk is turmeric, a yellow spice popular in Asian cuisine, which gives curry its yellow color. Curcumin, the active component in turmeric, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries due to its strong antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are compounds that fight cell damage, protecting your body from oxidative stress. They are essential to the functioning of your cells, and studies regularly show that diets rich in antioxidants may help lower your risk of infections and disease. Most golden milk recipes also include cinnamon and ginger — both of which have impressive antioxidant properties as well. Chronic inflammation is thought to play a key role in chronic diseases, including cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease. For this reason, diets rich in anti-inflammatory compounds may reduce your risk of these conditions.
Inflammation refers to your body’s process of fighting against things that harm it, like infections, injuries, and toxins, to heal itself. When something damages your cells, your body releases chemicals that trigger a response from your immune system. This response includes the release of antibodies and proteins, as well as increased blood flow to the damaged area. In the case of acute inflammation — like getting a cut on your knee or dealing with a cold — the entire process usually lasts for a few days. Chronic inflammation happens when this response lingers, leaving your body in a constant state of alert. Over time, chronic inflammation may have a negative impact on your tissues and organs. Some research suggests that chronic inflammation could also play a role in a range of conditions, from cancer to stroke. Acute inflammation often causes noticeable symptoms, like pain, redness, or swelling. But chronic inflammation symptoms are usually much more subtle. This makes them easy to overlook. Common symptoms of chronic inflammation include fatigue, body pain, depression or anxiety, gastrointestinal complications, (diarrhea or constipation), weight gain, weight loss, persistent infections. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and last for several months or years. Several things can cause chronic inflammation, including untreated causes of acute inflammation, like an infection or injury, an autoimmune disorder, which involves your immune system mistakenly attacking healthy tissue, long-term exposure to irritants, like industrial chemicals or polluted air. Keep in mind that these issues do not cause chronic inflammation in everyone. In addition, some cases of chronic inflammation do not have a clear underlying cause. When you are living with chronic inflammation, your body’s inflammatory response can eventually start damaging healthy cells, tissues, and organs. Over time, this can lead to tissue damage. All of these are linked to the development of several diseases, including: cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cognitive decline, and dementia (in older adults). This blend is based on Ginger, Cinnamon and Curcumin — the active ingredient in Turmeric — and have potent anti-inflammatory properties. The anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin are comparable to those of some pharmaceutical drugs with none of the side effects. These anti-inflammatory effects may reduce joint pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Golden milk may be good for your brain, too. Curcumin may increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF is a compound that helps your brain form new connections and promotes the growth of brain cells. Low levels of BDNF may be linked to brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease. Depression may also be linked to low levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). As curcumin boosts levels of BDNF, it may have the potential to reduce symptoms of depression. Other ingredients may provide benefits as well. One of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s is the accumulation of a specific protein in the brain, called the tau protein and studies suggest that compounds in cinnamon may help reduce this buildup. Cinnamon reduces the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and improve brain function. Ginger may also boost brain function by improving reaction time and memory. Ginger appears to protect against age-related brain function loss. Ginger and cinnamon may help lower blood sugar levels. For instance, 1–6 grams of cinnamon per day may lower fasting blood sugar levels by up to 29%. Moreover, cinnamon may reduce insulin resistance, Insulin-resistant cells are less able to accept sugar from your blood, so lowering insulin resistance lowers blood sugar levels. Cinnamon reduces how much glucose is absorbed in your gut after a meal, which can further improve blood sugar control. Ginger in your diet may help lower fasting blood sugar levels by up to 12%. Ginger may also lower hemoglobin A1C levels by up to 10% — a marker of long-term blood sugar control. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties because it contains compounds like gingerol, shogaol, and paradols that reduce inflammatory enzymes and oxidative stress. Ginger can be beneficial for conditions related to inflammation, including menstrual cramps and arthritis.
Turmeric has an active compound called curcumin, is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin can help reduce inflammation by inhibiting molecules that play a role in the inflammatory process. This makes turmeric a popular natural remedy for conditions like arthritis, where inflammation is a key factor. In addition to its anti-inflammatory benefits, turmeric also has antioxidant properties, which can help protect your cells from damage and pairing it with spicy ingredients including black pepper can enhance absorption. With Turmeric, we added Black Pepper. Black pepper contains piperine, which has been shown to effectively fight inflammation. Piperine may be effective in the early acute inflammatory process. Black pepper’s alkyl amides are most effective at reducing inflammatory responses. Black pepper is an excellent anti-inflammatory agent and helpful in swelling and tenderness of joints. Piperine is also shown to decrease inflammation, which can be a cause of diabetes, arthritis, asthma, and heart disease. Cloves because they are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, primarily due to a compound called eugenol. Eugenol can help reduce the body’s inflammatory response, making cloves a natural remedy for conditions like headaches, joint pain, and muscle soreness. Cardamon was also included because it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It contains antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation by protecting cells from damage caused by free radicals. Some studies suggest that cardamom can ease inflammation and may be beneficial for conditions like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Along with the above ingredients we added Cacao Powder. Cacao powder is known for its potential health benefits, particularly due to its high flavanol content which may help reduce inflammation. Lemon peel was also included because it has some powerful qualities and is a strong antiseptic that can help fight fever The essential oils found in lemon peel have been shown to reduce joint pain, by relaxing the blood vessels and producing an anti-inflammatory effect that significantly reduces painful sensations. The polyphenols in citrus peel may alleviate ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and pain in the digestive tract. The chemical limonene, which is abundant in citrus peel, has anti-inflammatory effects. Catuaba Bark was added because it has a rich content of flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins. These compounds are believed to help reduce inflammation and provide antioxidant benefits. We also added Cistanche. Cistanche is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It contains bioactive compounds like acteoside, which have been shown to reduce inflammation and may help with neuroinflammation, potentially protecting brain function. Steep Me Medicinal Mushrooms are a rich source of antioxidants and contain natural anti-inflammatory properties. Rich in fiber and low in calories, medicinal mushrooms also have L-ergothioneine (ERGO) which are important for fighting against inflammation in the body. These mushrooms are rich in antioxidants, combat oxidative stress, lower LDL cholesterol, and may prevent or slow cancer growth, boost brain function, protect and regenerate mucous membranes, and contain amino acids that balance inflammation, support liver health, and improve athletic performance, and fight obesity-related inflammation.
