Blender’s Notes Super Methylene Blue ~ USP Grade 1% ~ Steep Me Tincture :
Steep Me Self-help combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. We wanted to have an enriched and enhanced version of the Methylene Blue that would be unique and more helpful than just the single ingredient. What is methylene blue? Methylthionine chloride, widely known as methylene blue, is a synthetic liquid drug with a vibrant blue color. popular nootropic used for improving various cognitive functions. Because Methylene Blue is an MAOI, it can also have positive effects on mood and well-being. It contains various compounds, including carbon, chlorine, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur. Methylene blue was first developed in the 1870s and used as a textile dye. However, scientists soon discovered its therapeutic effects on malaria and its antibiotic and antipsychotic potential. Since the 19th century, methylene blue has been used to treat carbon monoxide and cyanide poisoning, as well as methemoglobinemia, a rare condition that affects the blood’s ability to transport oxygen. Additionally, methylene blue has neuroprotective properties that may help support healthy brain function and potentially lower the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Methylene blue supplementation may also improve mood, memory, focus, and fatigue. Mitochondria are cellular organelles necessary for sustaining life. These organelles convert food into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body’s main energy currency, through a process called mitochondrial respiration. Mitochondrial dysfunction is linked to a range of health concerns, including fatigue, cardiovascular conditions, neurodegenerative diseases, and gastrointestinal problems. Animal studies have demonstrated that Methylene Blue can provide antidepressants and anxiolytic benefits. Possibly because it can increase serotonin and dopamine levels. Canadian researchers noted that Methylene Blue also improved mitochondrial function and decreased oxidative damage. So, they hypothesized that Methylene Blue may be effective for bipolar disorder symptoms if combined with lamotrigine which is used as a mood stabilizer. This study at Dalhousie University in Halifax compared the effectiveness of lamotrigine (Lamictal®) along with daily supplementation of either 195 mg or 15 mg of Methylene Blue in patients with bipolar disorder. Patients took a dose (Lamictal and either 195 mg or 15 mg of Methylene Blue) for three months. Then proceeded to reduce Methylene Blue dosage for an extended period of 3 months. The team found that bipolar participants had reduced depression and anxiety when taking the higher dose of Methylene Blue compared to when they were on the lower dose. Several Bipolar Disorder patients in the study chose to continue using Methylene Blue after the study concluded.
Methylene blue improves mitochondrial energy metabolism by acting as an artificial electron carrier in the electron transport chain (ETC), a series of proteins embedded in the inner membrane of mitochondria. Electron carriers shuttle electrons between molecules for energy conversion. Methylene blue works by increasing mitochondrial respiration and transporting electrons through the ETC to release energy. Methylene blue also helps improve mitochondrial function by boosting oxygen metabolism and transport, necessary for mitochondrial respiration and cellular energy production. This unique drug enhances key mitochondrial biochemical pathways and improves oxygen transport by converting abnormal blood cells to normal blood cells, referred to as hemoglobin. Methylene blue can increase the release of neurotransmitters in the brain, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. These neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that help regulate mood and are widely known as feel-good hormones. Methylene blue can cross the blood-brain barrier and may help reduce oxidative stress in the central nervous system. Oxidative metabolism is an important energy source for brain activity. During brain aging, mitochondrial dysfunction has been associated with neuronal loss. It has also been observed in many brain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and brain injuries. Methylene Blue is highly lipophilic and able to effectively cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
Methylene Blue helps Neurotransmitters: Methylene Blue inhibits monoamine oxidase and acetylcholinesterase activity which increases levels of catecholamines and acetylcholine. And boosts serotonin and norepinephrine affecting anxiety, depression, and memory. Mitochondrial Energy: Methylene Blue assists brain cell respiration by increasing oxygen. And donating electrons to the electron transport chain within mitochondria. This same process is used to create ATP within mitochondria from the food you eat. So, MB contributes to this energy-production process in place of the nutrients you get from your food. Increasing cellular energy positively effects mood and memory. Neuroprotectant: Methylene Blue is a potent antioxidant. Reactive oxygen species are produced inside mitochondria. The first free radical that is formed inside a cell is superoxide. MB will bind to superoxide and reduce it to water. It stops the oxidative cascade at its very beginning. Before it gets a chance to do damage. Methylene blue has been shown to have antimicrobial effects against several fungi species and infectious bacterial strains. Methylene blue was first used to treat malaria in the 1890s. While it has mostly been replaced with other antimalarial drugs, methylene blue has shown effectiveness against viral infections, including the flu virus and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Antioxidants play a crucial role in mitigating the detrimental effects of oxidative stress on skin health, potentially slowing down the aging process. Methylene blue has been shown to have potent antioxidant effects, which may explain why it has been linked to improved skin appearance. Methylene blue may be an effective photosensitizing agent, a class of drugs used in photodynamic anticancer therapy. This therapy uses a combination of light and pharmaceutical drugs to destroy cancerous and precancerous cells. Methylene blue has been identified as a potential preventive measure against cancer. Its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties play a role in reducing the risk of developing cancer. According to recent studies, methylene blue can help prevent cancer by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and reducing the number of mutations that lead to cancer. Additionally, methylene blue may have applications in early cancer detection and intervention. Research suggests that Methylene Blue can be used to identify cancer cells, making it easier for doctors to diagnose the disease in its initial stages. Once detected, methylene blue can be used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to target and inhibit tumor growth.
The side effects below are dose dependent. The risk for them increases (often linearly but sometimes exponentially) as you increase the dose. Some of the side effects only apply to extremely high doses. Blue urine – This side effect is common at higher doses but nothing to worry about. Serotonin syndrome – It is best to avoid Rhodiola if you are on SSRIs as this combination could lead to serotonin syndrome. Rhodiola alone should never cause this side effect. Jitteriness – This potential side effect is like that of caffeine but much less notable. Irritability – Some people report this effect. Difficulty sleeping – The nootropic can increase energy levels and make you more alert. When taken later in the day, it can make it harder to fall asleep and worsen your sleep quality. Allergic reaction – An allergy to this nootropic is rare but possible. Nausea – This side effect is most common when people take the supplement on an empty stomach. Diarrhea – You can usually prevent diarrhea or stomach discomfort by taking this supplement with a meal. Toxicity – While acute toxicity is extremely rare, taking excessive amounts of this nootropic could lead to chronic toxicity and cause health problems over time. Regularly taking high doses can also cause the body to develop a tolerance to the supplement. To prevent chronic toxicity or the buildup of tolerance, staying below 80 mg in a day is best unless you have a great reason to take more. Methylene Blue: Benefits, Side Effects, Best Time to Take It & More
In this blend we did the strict formulation of the 99.99% Pure Methylene Blue with our Reverse Osmosis water. In this blend we added special essential oils to help make the Methylene Blue more effective and to cater to its healing benefits. We also included Frankincense. Frankincense may help reduce inflammation by preventing the release of leukotrienes, compounds that cause inflammation. This makes it potentially beneficial for conditions like arthritis. It has shown promise in improving gut function and alleviating symptoms of conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), including abdominal pain and bloating. Frankincense may support the immune system by modulating its response, which could help in managing autoimmune conditions and it shows properties that inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells. Next, we added Rosemary. Rosemary is packed with compounds like rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid, which help combat oxidative stress and protect cells. This herb has been traditionally used to aid digestion, reduce bloating, and relieve indigestion. Rosemary may support memory and concentration by improving blood circulation and reducing inflammation in the brain. The compounds in rosemary can help reduce inflammation, which is linked to various chronic diseases. With its antimicrobial properties, rosemary may help fight off infections and support overall immune health. Preliminary studies indicate that rosemary might assist in managing blood sugar levels, which is promising for those with diabetes and its ability to improve circulation and its antioxidant properties may have benefits for cardiovascular health. We also included Helichrysum. Traditionally it is used to alleviate digestive issues like bloating, indigestion, and stomach cramps. It may help reduce intestinal spasms. Its antimicrobial properties might help with colds and coughs by reducing inflammation in the airways. Internally, it could support the body’s natural healing processes by preventing infections and its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may strengthen the immune system.
Next, we added Oregano. Oregano contains compounds like carvacrol and thymol, which help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.
