VO2 Max ~ Hypoxemia

This blend was built to help the body with not having the proper gas exchange in your lungs.  The oxygen from the air you’ve breathed in passes from the alveoli into your blood and is then delivered to the cells throughout your body. While this is happening, carbon dioxide leaves your blood and moves into the alveoli, where it will be expelled when you exhale.

Blender’s Notes VO2 Max ~ Hypoxemia:

Steep Me Self-Help combinations are a fantastic way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs was built to help the body with proper gas exchange in your lungs to increase oxygenation. The oxygen from the air you have breathed in passes from the alveoli into your blood and is then delivered to the cells throughout your body. While this is happening, carbon dioxide leaves your blood and moves into the alveoli, where it will be expelled when you exhale. Some symptoms include Someone with hypoxemia may experience the following symptoms: shortness of breath, fast breathing, rapid heartbeat, coughing or wheezing, headache, feeling confused or disoriented, a blue coloration to the skinlips, or fingernails.

What is VO2 max and what does it tell you? VO2 max is an objective way to tell just how fit you are. A high VO2 max correlates to better physical fitness and is associated with a lower risk for cardiovascular disease and increased longevity. And if you know your VO2 max, you can use it as a tool to help you exercise more efficiently. The V in VO2 max stands for volume, while O2 stands for oxygen. As such, VO2 max measures how much oxygen your body consumes while exercising. Typically, VO2 max is measured as ml/kg/minute (milliliters of oxygen consumed per kilogram of body weight per minute of exercise). When you breathe, your lungs absorb oxygen and transport it to your red blood cells, which carry the oxygen to all your body’s organs and muscles. Your muscle cells need oxygen to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP provides the main energy source your muscles need to do their work. The more oxygen you can breathe in, the more ATP your muscles produce, creating the energy to fuel your muscles and power your workout. (This is also why you breathe faster while exercising.) If you have a higher VO2 max, that means your heart and lungs are more effectively supplying blood to your muscles, and that your muscles are efficiently extracting and using oxygen from your blood. That is why a high VO2 max is a good indicator of a high fitness level.

How to improve your VO2 max Get your heart pumping. You can improve your VO2 max by doing any aerobic exercise that gets your heart pumping — the more vigorous, the better. If you are not active, walking may be vigorous enough to trigger improvements in your VO2 max score. Incorporate intervals. If you are already quite active, try incorporating sessions of high-intensity interval training. HIIT is a fast and effective way to increase VO2 max, even if you are already highly active. Try doing an interval training workout several times per week, interspersed with slower, longer-duration activities. Switch up your workout routine. Your body is constantly adapting. If you are primarily a swimmer, try cycling. If you usually train at a slow, steady pace, ramp things up. If you usually work out for 30 minutes, try adding 10 minutes to your routine. All these changes force your body to work harder to adapt. Lose weight. Because relative VO2 max is measured relative to your weight, simply losing weight can boost your VO2 max. What is hypoxemia? Hypoxemia is when oxygen levels in the blood are lower than normal. If blood oxygen levels are too low, your body may not work properly. Someone with low blood oxygen is considered hypoxemic. Oxygen gets to your blood through your lungs. When you breathe in, oxygen from the air travels through your lungs into small air sacks (alveoli). Blood vessels (capillaries) travel close to the alveoli and pick up the oxygen. Finally, oxygen travels through your blood to your tissues. Hypoxemia can happen if you cannot breathe in enough oxygen or if the oxygen you breathe in cannot get to your blood. Air and blood flow are both important to having enough oxygen in your blood. This is why lung disease and heart disease both increase your risk of hypoxemia. Depending on the severity and duration, hypoxemia can lead to mild symptoms or lead to death. Mild symptoms include headaches and shortness of breath. In severe cases, hypoxemia can interfere with heart and brain function. It can lead to a lack of oxygen in your body’s organs and tissues (hypoxia). Hypoxemia can happen for a short duration leading to “acute” respiratory failure. In situations where it is a long-term problem over months and years, you may hear it referred to as “chronic respiratory failure.” Hypoxemia: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

In this blend we started with Eleuthero Root. Eleuthero can improve VO2 max in athletes, contributing to enhanced cardiovascular fitness and overall performance and it extended the time participants could exercise showing improved endurance and reduced perceived exertion during physical activity. Eleuthero may facilitate quicker recovery times, allowing athletes to resume training sooner and with less soreness. As an adaptogen, eleuthero helps the body manage stress effectively. This reduced stress response can lead to better focus and performance under competitive conditions. Training hard can weaken the immune system, and eleuthero has been noted for its ability to support and enhance immune function, aiding better overall health for athletes. Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) is an herb known for various health benefits, especially related to heart health. Motherwort may improve circulation by relaxing blood vessels. Better circulation helps deliver oxygen more efficiently to muscles during exercise, potentially enhancing aerobic performance. The cardiotonic properties of Motherwort can strengthen heart function, helping the heart pump more effectively. A more efficient heart can supply muscles with more oxygen during high-intensity workouts. Reducing anxiety and stress through its calming effects can facilitate better performance in physical activities, leading to improved endurance and exercise capacity. When under less stress, the body can perform optimally, contributing to better VO2 Max outcomes. Peppermint was also included. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is a widely recognized herb with numerous health benefits. Menthol, the active compound in peppermint, can open airways, making it easier to breathe during physical activity. Improved airflow can enhance oxygen delivery, which is vital for maximizing VO2 Max. By relieving gastrointestinal discomfort, peppermint allows for better nutrient absorption and energy utilization, which may contribute to improved physical performance. Its ability to relax smooth muscles can help in reducing tension during intense workouts, allowing for more effective and sustained physical exertion and improved mental focus and energy levels from peppermint may help you train harder and longer, contributing indirectly to improvements in VO2 Max as you optimize your workouts.

Next, Ashwagandha Root was added because it is a traditional ayurvedic herb that enhances blood circulation which in turn improves cardiovascular health. Ashwagandha decreases cholesterol level and blood pressure level that relaxes blood vessels and stimulates blood circulation throughout the body. Ashwagandha users experienced a notable increase in muscle strength and size contributing to improved performance in resistance training. Ashwagandha is known for its adaptogenic properties, helping the body manage stress more effectively. Reduced cortisol levels can improve mental clarity and focus during workouts. It can reduce muscle soreness and damage, leading to quick recovery times after rigorous exercise, thereby allowing for more consistent training routines. Plus, Ashwagandha has been shown to improve energy levels and decrease perceived exertion during workouts, allowing for longer and more effective training sessions. Next, we included Turmeric, Cayenne Pepper, and Ginger. Turmeric’s curcumin can reduce inflammation, potentially allowing for better recovery and is essential for endurance training. Improved endothelial function contributes to better oxygen delivery during exercise. Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, which is linked to improved blood flow and vascular health. Enhanced nitric oxide production supports better oxygen delivery to muscles during exercise and can lead to improved endurance and decreased perceived exertion, potentially allowing for better performance in aerobic activities. Ginger has been shown to lower markers of inflammation and soreness after workouts, which can help mitigate the fatigue associated with high-intensity training and it can support VO2 max indirectly by increasing recovery rates and maintaining robust immune function during intensive training cycles. Garlic was also included because it can improve athletic performance by increasing VO2 max, which means your body becomes more efficient at consuming oxygen during exercise. This can lead to better endurance and overall physical fitness. Garlic supplies the body and the brain with more blood, oxygen, and nutrients, it also makes sense that it will increase your energy levels, thus boosting your alertness. Red blood cells process compounds from digested garlic and relax blood vessels and increase blood flow.

Ginkgo was added because it can help improve VO2 max and overall aerobic performance. Ginkgo biloba can lead to improvements in VO2 max over a six-week period, suggesting enhanced aerobic capacity. Ginkgo is rich in flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds, which help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, potentially improving physical performance. It improves circulation, allowing for better oxygen delivery to muscles during exercise, which is crucial for endurance activities. It is linked to increased BDNF levels during exercise, aiding neuroprotection and recovery and resulted in better endurance as evidenced by significant increases in blood antioxidant capacity. Finally, we added Steep Me Medicinal Mushroom Blend. This combo of Medicinal Mushrooms is rich in Antioxidants which helps reduce inflammation and may enhance stamina and oxygen flow, supporting overall athletic performance. These mushrooms are proven to improve VO2 max, increase ATP production (Boosts cellular energy availability, leading to improved stamina and reduced fatigue), enhance oxygen absorption, and reduce lactic acid buildup, which decreases fatigue during exercise and are vital for endurance sports. They contain neuroprotective properties that may help maintain focus and mental clarity during workouts, contributing indirectly to better performance. Improves mental focus and concentration, which is beneficial for athletes needing sustained attention during performance. They are known for their immune support allowing athletes to train more consistently without interruption from illnesses and gut health, which can enhance recovery and energy levels in athletes, helping sustain training intensity. These mushrooms are known for metabolic health (healthy blood sugar levels and overall metabolism) and immune function, potentially allowing for better recovery and endurance during workouts. These mushrooms improve sleep quality and reduce stress, which can help enhance recovery and overall athletic performance by preventing burnout.

When talking about the many types of tea, Tisane (Herbal Infusion) or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is really not tea at all.  It is made like a tea and all the same items are used to make it, but it does not contain the Camellia Sinensis Plant (unless stated), but is simply roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits put together is a combination that is made just like a tea.  With that being said…the health benefits of a Tisane or Herbal teas are different.  They can vary depending on the ingredients and combination of herbs so there are no blanket health benefits – just depends on the ingredients.

For many, the best part of Tisane or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is the fact that it is caffeine free naturally.  Of course there are herbs that can be added to change that.  The most popular Herbal teas include Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and any combination of fruit blends or infusions.  Our Self-Help Teas are simply supplemental herbal combinations to aid with an occasional ailment specific to what may be happening in your life.  The teas are built to work and are not build with any specific flavorings.  The blends are tested to the minimum requirements laid out by Steep Me A Cup of Tea.  The taste provided is natural to the herbs present in the blend.  No flavorings added.
