Liver Fibrosis ~ Cirrhosis ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a great way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love for you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All of our teas go thru a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more testing the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
This blend was built to help assist your body in helping heal the scarring and extensive scarring (fibrosis) of the liver caused by long-term injuries and disease. The damage is due to persistent and ongoing inflammation in response to chronic liver damage, such as chronic viral hepatitis infection, excessive alcohol consumption, and other causes. Your liver is one of the biggest internal organs. It has many jobs, including aiding digestion, storing energy, making blood clotting components, and removing waste and microorganisms. The liver is also able to regenerate, or regrow, itself to repair damage. Normally, the liver can make new cells when something harms it. The new cells replace the old ones that have died. However, this does not work the way it should with a diseased liver or if liver injury is continuous or severe. Instead, the attempts at repair cause scarring in place of functioning liver cells. Scars are fibrous tissue, hence the name fibrosis. Another name for liver fibrosis is hepatic fibrosis. In the United States, the most common conditions that result in liver fibrosis are alcohol-related liver disease, chronic hepatitis, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Having these conditions puts you at risk of developing liver fibrosis. Blood tests and imaging exams can help find signs of liver fibrosis. When found early, it is possible to cure or reverse liver fibrosis. If liver fibrosis remains undetected and the damage continues, it can progress to cirrhosis. The difference between liver fibrosis and cirrhosis is that cirrhosis is permanent, irreversible scarring. The liver becomes smaller and mostly consists of hard scar tissue. Once cirrhosis develops, symptoms and problems can appear.
The first ingredient in this blend is Milk thistle has been used for over 2,000 years to treat bile duct and liver conditions, and research shows that it may have liver-protective properties. It has been suggested that silymarin has strong antioxidant effects and may help promote liver cell regeneration, reduce inflammation, and benefit those with liver disease. Studies have shown that taking a silymarin supplement may help protect against liver disease progression, prolong life in people with alcoholic cirrhosis, and enhance overall quality of life in people with liver disease. Artichoke, Parsley, Marshmallow Root, have been added for its antioxidant’s quantity and its antibacterial properties. Gynostemma benefits include supporting detoxification, healthy liver function and protecting against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Ginger root contains powerful compounds, including gingerols and shogaols, that help inhibit inflammation and protect against cellular damage, which may help support liver health. Plus, ginger may help protect your liver against toxins like alcohol. Dandelion has been used for liver support and in other ways for thousands of years, especially by native cultures in North America. Dandelion is a bitter herb, and all bitter herbs will kick in what is known as the “bitter reflex” in the body once ingested. The unique phytonutrients in bitters, including certain alkaloids and sesquiterpenes, then spring into action and signal the digestive system to secrete gastric acids. contains high amounts of a substance called kynurenic acid. This is an amino acid that is key for bile production. This stimulates digestive function, and, in turn, all the systems connected to the gastrointestinal system, including all organs associated with the detoxification system. Dandelion also supports the liver by providing first-layer support for blood detoxification. It is a great preventive for jaundice, gentle support for those who have hepatitis, and can also help with anemia since it can encourage iron absorption. Another way that dandelion cleanses blood is by working with the pancreas to remove excess sugars. This has the added advantage of balancing blood sugar as well.
Burdock Root has many benefits for liver because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it has also been shown to heal liver cells from damage caused by alcohol, acetaminophen, or other liver-damaging toxins. It also promotes glutathione activity. Burdock root is also used to lower blood pressure due to its diuretic effect on the kidneys. Garlic is packed with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory plant compounds, such as allicin, alliin, and ajoene, which may help support liver health. Licorice root has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and liver-protective effects in scientific studies. The main active component in licorice root is the saponin compound glycyrrhizin, which is commonly used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine to treat many ailments, including liver disease. Some studies have demonstrated that treatment with licorice extract may benefit those with certain liver conditions. And finally, we added Astralagus root which is loaded with medicinal compounds, including saponins, iso-flavonoids, and polysaccharides, which have powerful therapeutic properties. It is considered safe and has not been associated with liver injury and it may help protect against fibrosis and high fat diet-induced fatty liver when used alone or in combination with other herbs.
