Blender’s Notes Sugar Bomb ~ Micro-Nutrition:
Steep Me Micro-Nutrition combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits of different combinations of Vitamins and Minerals. With this blend we are providing a healthy and potent blend of minerals and vitamins for managing your appetite and helping jumpstart a more confident way of meal balance and your body. Foods high in protein and fiber can help suppress your appetite, as can exercise, sleep and other healthy habits. You already know that one of the side effects of changing your eating habits can be a tendency to feel less than fully satisfied. Your rumbling belly is used to getting a certain number of calories throughout the day. And when you make a conscious effort to eat fewer calories, your stomach may protest. Loudly. Do you remember slipping off a diet plan because you just could not resist the cravings for sweets? This happens more often than you think. And it is no surprise because studies show that sugar is more addictive than cocaine! Sugary drinks alone kill 184,000 people every year through cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. High sugar intake raises levels of bad cholesterol and blood fats. Sugar is often linked to the development of numerous lung conditions. Studies have shown that sugar hinders such activities as learning and memorizing things. Sugar also affects the health of your eyes, seriously hinders your immune system, gives you acne, and causes you to overeat. On the other side, people who consume little or no sugar in their diets rarely experience depression. They are more active during the day and sleep better at night. And they are more protected from a broad range of diseases. The average American consumes 130 pounds (about 60 kg) of refined sugar and high- fructose corn syrup (HFCS) every year. That is equivalent to 40 teaspoons per person per day! The more sugar you eat, the more your body must make internal fat to wrap the corrosive sugar in and keep it away from your vital organs. Sugar, not fat, is mostly responsible for the growing obesity problem. And while artificial sweeteners were invented to take the place of sugar for a lower-calorie option, research suggests that is completely ineffective. By consuming artificial sweeteners, you will experience the same cravings or even eat more food and total calories. The trick is to give your body what it needs to allow it to fuel itself naturally. We experience sugar cravings because we do not provide sufficient nourishment for our bodies, and it seeks quick energy fixes from carbohydrates. Sugar consumption increases serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, appetite, memory, and social behavior. Therefore, it makes us feel happier temporarily, and when the feeling dissipates, we crave this happy chemical again. We can boost our serotonin levels through diet, exercise, adequate consistent sleep, and supplements. Once your body learns (or re-learns) to receive vital energy from beneficial sources, it will no longer require the quick energy from carbs, and the cravings will stop. And by cutting sugar, you will be doing a great favor to your mind and body. How to Stop Sugar Cravings with Nutritional Supplements | Dr. Ian Stern | Dr. Ian Stern
In this blend we started with Gymnema Silvestre. Gymnema Silvestre is also known as “gurmar” (which means “destroyer of sugar” in Hindi) for its ability to control blood sugar levels and suppress the cravings for sweets. In fact, it is often used to treat diabetes, heart disease, and arthritis (all of which have been linked with excess sugar consumption). Gymnemic acids, the active molecules found in the plant, have a sweetness suppression effect, and upon ingestion people lose the taste for sugar (artificial and natural sugars alike). That is because the molecules have a shape that is like that of glucose, so they bind to the glucose receptors in your mouth and gut, cutting off the signal to the brain that produces sugar cravings. Gymnema Sylvestre takes seconds to work, and the effects can last up to an hour, so it is best to take it when you have a sugar craving or during the time of day when you tend to reach for sweets (for example, in the evenings). Next, we added in L-Glutamine. L-Glutamine is an amino acid, has been suggested to help with sugar cravings. It is believed to stabilize blood sugar levels, which can reduce the urge to consume sugary foods. When blood sugar levels are stable, the body does not experience the highs and lows that can lead to cravings. Zinc has been included because mineral imbalances in the body can cause sugar cravings also. Essential minerals help maintain our hydration status, so being deficient can cause you to reach for sweets when, in truth, you are just dehydrated. People who experience sugar cravings often have exceptionally low zinc, calcium, chromium, and magnesium levels. Zinc is needed for proper insulin and glucose utilization. Steep Me Magnesium Blend. Magnesium is another essential mineral. It is used in the regulation of glucose, insulin, and the neurotransmitter dopamine; a deficiency can manifest in the form of intense sugar cravings, especially for chocolate (which is high in magnesium). Because of many factors in today’s world, such as soil depletion, chronic diseases, medications, and the amount of refined and processed foods, most people in modern societies are at risk for magnesium deficiency. Moreover, patients with diabetes appear to be magnesium-deficient and magnesium deficiency increases the risk of diabetes. Next, we added Chromium. Chromium also is an essential mineral that has a beneficial role in the regulation of insulin, thereby affecting the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. Chromium picolinate, specifically, has been shown to reduce insulin resistance and to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Next, we added in Arabinogalactan. Arabinogalactan is a complex carbohydrate found in various plant sources, such as the bark of the eastern white pine tree and the roots of the burdock plant. It acts as a prebiotic, meaning it feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut, promoting a healthy gut microbiome. This can lead to improved digestion, enhanced immune function, and reduced inflammation. Interestingly, a healthy gut microbiome can also help manage sugar cravings. When your gut bacteria are balanced, they can help regulate your blood sugar levels and reduce the urge to consume sugary foods. So, incorporating arabinogalactan into your diet might indirectly help curb those sugar cravings by supporting your gut health. We also included Cloves, Cinnamon, and Ginger. Cloves are known to regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin function, which might help reduce sugar cravings. Cinnamon has been shown to decrease insulin resistance, leading to better regulation of blood sugar levels. Ginger helps in digestion and can also stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing the desire for sugary snacks. Integrating these spices into your diet might help manage those cravings. Psyllium can be a great ally in managing sugar cravings. Psyllium husk is a soluble fiber that absorbs water and expands in your digestive tract. This helps you feel fuller for longer, which can reduce the urge to snack on sugary foods and by slowing down digestion, psyllium helps buffer blood sugar spikes that can trigger sugar cravings. The gel-like consistency it forms in your stomach can help you feel satisfied, making it easier to resist high-sugar snacks. Ashwagandha and Astralagus were also included. Ashwagandha, also known as Withania somnifera, is an adaptogenic herb used in Ayurvedic medicine. It helps the body manage stress and has been shown to reduce cravings for sugar and carbohydrates. This is because it helps balance hormone levels and reduce stress, which are often linked to sugar cravings. Astragalus, on the other hand, is a plant native to China and is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is known for its immune-boosting properties and potential benefits like reducing inflammation and improving heart health. Next, we added in Steep Me Vitamin B Blend. Vitamin B plays a crucial role in energy production. When your body is deficient in these vitamins, it may signal a need for quick energy, often leading to sugar cravings. Ensuring adequate intake of B vitamins can help support sustained energy levels, reducing the need for sugary foods to boost energy. Dandelion was added because it is often used for its diuretic properties and to support liver health. While there is not convincing evidence linking dandelion to sugar cravings, its overall benefits to liver function might indirectly help regulate blood sugar levels, which could potentially reduce cravings. Milk Thistle was added because it is well-known for its liver-protective effects, primarily due to its active ingredient, silymarin. Some studies suggest that milk thistle can help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. By supporting better blood sugar control, it might help reduce sugar cravings.
Tongkat Ali was added because it can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, which could potentially help manage sugar cravings. Semen Cuscutae because its various health benefits, such as invigorating the kidneys, nourishing the liver, and supporting overall vitality can also aid while breaking cravings to sugar. Berberine because it can help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing insulin resistance. By stabilizing blood sugar levels, it may help reduce cravings for sugary foods. We also included Cayenne Pepper. The active compound in cayenne pepper, capsaicin, can help reduce hunger and increase metabolism. This can make you feel fuller for longer and reduce the urge to reach for sugary snacks and the spicy flavor of cayenne pepper can give your brain the illusion of sweetness without the actual sugar, helping to satisfy those cravings. Lodhra was included because it helps manage blood sugar levels. Ginseng because it can help regulate blood sugar levels, which in turn can reduce cravings for sweets. It is particularly helpful for curbing emotional overeating and keeping blood sugar levels stable. We also added Fenugreek. Fenugreek has a taste like maple syrup or burnt sugar, and they can help control blood sugar levels. This, in turn, can help reduce sugar cravings. Fenugreek is also rich in soluble fiber, which can make you feel full and reduce hunger, further helping to curb those cravings. Bupleurum because it is known for its ability to reduce stress and emotional eating, which are often linked to sugar cravings. Finally, we added in Glucomannan. Glucomannan can help with sugar cravings because it is a natural dietary fiber derived from the root of the konjac plant known for its ability to absorb water and expand in the digestive tract, which can help you feel fuller for longer periods. This increased feeling of fullness can reduce overall food intake, including cravings for sugary snacks. Additionally, glucomannan can help regulate blood sugar levels by slowing the absorption of sugar. This can prevent the spikes and crashes in blood sugar that often lead to cravings.
