Blender’s Notes Allergy:
Steep Me Self-Help Tea combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs helps the body with Allergies. Allergies happen when your immune system responds to an allergen by making antibodies. Your body produces an extra strong histamine response which causes you to experience symptoms of your nasal passages, eyes, and lungs trying to “expel” and fight off the invaders. Due to your body’s strong, overly zealous defense, you can experience the following symptoms: Runny nose ~ Congestion ~ Loss of smell ~ Coughing ~ Sneezing ~ Headache ~ Itchy, red, watery eyes ~ Postnasal drip ~ Or Allergic rhinitis. Allergic Rhinitis is a diagnosis where your nose gets irritated by something you are allergic to, such as pollen, which causes sneezing and other symptoms. Allergic rhinitis is also known as seasonal allergies, pollinosis, and hay fever. Your Allergies can be triggered by a variety of airborne allergens, including Pollen ~ Animal dander ~ Dust mites and Mold. Allergies – Symptoms and causes – Mayo Clinic
In this blend we started with Nettles. Nettles are a powerful herb that can ease allergy symptoms naturally while boosting nutrition and reducing inflammation. Nettles provide vitamins A, C, K, and several B vitamins, plus minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It is rich in polyphenols and carotenoids. Nettles help neutralize free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic disease and its compounds lower inflammatory markers, supporting conditions like arthritis, eczema, and general inflammation. Nettles strengthen immune function, aiding recovery from illness or stress. Nettle leaves contain compounds that block histamine receptors and enzymes involved in allergic reactions, reducing hay fever symptoms. Next, we added Rosemary. Rosemary offers anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating benefits that may help reduce allergy symptoms, especially through compounds like rosmarinic acid. Because it contains rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid it will help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. Its compounds help lower inflammatory mediators, supporting conditions like arthritis and asthma and may improve memory, concentration, and mood regulation. Plus, Rosemary’s phytochemicals influence immune signaling pathways, potentially strengthening resilience against infections. Rosemary extract may inhibit mast cell activation, reducing histamine release—the main trigger for allergy symptoms. Rosemary can ease sneezing, nasal congestion, and watery eyes by lowering pro-inflammatory mediators and by reducing oxidative stress, rosemary may indirectly lessen the severity of allergic inflammation. Red Raspberry Leaf was also added. Red raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus) can help reduce allergy-related inflammation. Red Raspberry Leaf contains ellagitannins, flavonoids, and phenolic acids that neutralize free radicals, protecting cells from oxidative stress. It can also reduce inflammatory markers, support tissue comfort, and modulate inflammatory pathways. Red Raspberry Leaf may reduce tissue irritation and oxidative stress triggered by allergic reactions and help calm the inflammatory environment that worsens allergy symptoms. Next, we added Mullein. Mullein is a respiratory-soothing herb that helps ease allergy-related congestion, coughing, and airway irritation. It is traditionally used for bronchitis, asthma, coughs, and colds. Its mucilage coats and soothes irritate mucous membranes. It contains flavonoids and saponins which reduce airway inflammation and irritation and can help loosen and expel mucus, making breathing easier. Plus, Mullein can be used for pain relief, it has an analgesic effect, especially for sore throats that can come with allergies.
Skullcap was also added because it helps reduce airway inflammation, oxidative stress, and immune overreaction. Skullcap is rich in baicalin, baicalein, and wogonin, potent flavonoids with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity and is used for respiratory infections, fever, and liver support. Plus, Skullcap can help with cardiovascular, liver, and cognitive health. Skullcap contains baicalin and wogonin which can reduce inflammatory mediators, calming airway irritation triggered by allergies. It helps regulate immune responses, potentially reducing hypersensitivity reactions and is a great option for hay fever, asthma, and lung irritation, easing congestion and inflammation which can come with your allergies. Next, we added Gynostemma. Gynostemma (Gynostemma pentaphyllum), also called jiaogulan, is an adaptogenic herb often nicknamed “Southern Ginseng.” It is rich in gypenosides (saponins like those in ginseng) that provide anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-modulating effects. These properties make it useful for overall vitality, stress resilience, and metabolic health. For allergies, gynostemma may help by reducing inflammatory responses, calming oxidative stress, and modulating immune overreaction—all of which can ease allergy-related symptoms. Allergies are often the result of an overactive immune response. Gynostemma helps modulate immune signaling, reducing hypersensitivity and its anti-inflammatory compounds calm airway and tissue irritation triggered by histamine release. Allergic reactions generate oxidative stress; gynostemma’s antioxidants help buffer this, reducing symptom severity. We also added Astralagus because it is a tonic herb that strengthens immunity, reduces inflammation, and supports respiratory health. For allergies, it helps prevent and reduce symptom severity by calming immune overreaction. Astralagus can enhance immune cell activity (macrophages, natural killer cells, T-cells), help the body resist infections, and reduce cytokines and inflammatory mediators, supporting conditions linked to chronic inflammation and protecting tissues from oxidative stress. Allergies stem from an overactive immune response so Astragalus helps regulate immune signaling, reducing hypersensitivity. By calming mast cell activity and inflammatory cascades, astragalus may lessen sneezing, congestion, and itchy eyes and it can help strengthen respiratory resilience against pollen and environmental irritants. English ivy (Hedera helix) is best known as a respiratory-support herb. Its active compounds—saponins (hederacoside C, α-hederin)—have expectorant, anti-inflammatory, and bronchodilator effects. This makes it useful for easing coughs, congestion, and airway irritation. For allergies, English ivy can help by loosening mucus, calming inflamed tissues, and improving breathing comfort and widely used for bronchitis, asthma, and chronic cough. English Ivy contains saponins which stimulate mucus clearance, helping expel phlegm and ease congestion. It also contains α-hederin which can help relax your airway and improving airflow and it reduces airway inflammation, soothing irritated mucous membranes.
We also added Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus and related species) is a powerful aromatic herb rich in cineole (eucalyptol), which has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and decongestant properties. It is widely used for respiratory health—helping clear mucus, soothing irritated airways, and ease breathing. For allergies, eucalyptus can help by reducing nasal congestion, calm airway inflammation, and providing antimicrobial protection against secondary infections that sometimes follow allergic irritation. By making a cup of tea with Eucalyptus, eucalyptus vapors help clear nasal passages blocked by allergic rhinitis and reduce swelling and irritation in the respiratory tract. Plus, it prevents secondary sinus or respiratory infections that can worsen allergy symptoms. We included Black cumin (Nigella sativa), often called black seed, because it has immune-modulating, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine-like properties. Its key active compound, thymoquinone, helps reduce allergic inflammation, stabilize mast cells, and lower histamine release. Black Cumin can balance immune activity, strengthening defense against infections while reducing overactive responses. Thymoquinone reduces inflammatory cytokines and neutralizes free radicals, protecting tissues from oxidative stress. Chickweed contains antioxidants including phytosterols, tocopherols, triterpene saponins, hentiacontanol, coumarins, organic acids and flavonoids, which could fight free radical damage. Because it is a major source of vitamin C and zinc, it can support overall immune system health and protect against several conditions, such as coughs, asthma, allergies, and bronchitis. We added Self-Heal because its cooling and astringent properties can help alleviate symptoms during allergy season. Additionally, it is believed to be an immunomodulator, which means it can help regulate the immune system and potentially reduce an overactive immune response. Finally, we added Marshmallow Root. Marshmallow Root can help sooth a sore throat, cough or cold, and can help with pain, swelling and congestion. Marshmallow can also help stop the urge to cough and facilitate the process of producing more saliva, allowing it to help reduce symptoms of dry mouth. All these great ingredients can certainly make your allergy season more manageable.

Benefits
When talking about the many types of tea, Tisane (Herbal Infusion) or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is really not tea at all. It is made like a tea and all the same items are used to make it, but it does not contain the Camellia Sinensis Plant (unless stated), but is simply roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits put together is a combination that is made just like a tea. With that being said…the health benefits of a Tisane or Herbal teas are different. They can vary depending on the ingredients and combination of herbs so there are no blanket health benefits – just depends on the ingredients. For many, the best part of Tisane or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is the fact that it is caffeine free naturally. Of course there are herbs that can be added to change that. The most popular Herbal teas include Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and any combination of fruit blends or infusions. Our Self-Help Teas are simply supplemental herbal combinations to aid with an occasional ailment specific to what may be happening in your life. The teas are built to work and are not build with any specific flavorings. The blends are tested to the minimum requirements laid out by Steep Me A Cup of Tea. The taste provided is natural to the herbs present in the blend. No flavorings added. This/these claim(s) has/have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
