Blender’s Notes Anti-Inflammatory ~ Micro-Nutrition:
Steep Me Micro-Nutrition combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits of different combinations of Vitamins and Minerals. With this blend we are providing a healthy and potent blend of minerals and vitamins for reducing overall inflammation in the body. “Inflammation is the body’s response to a noxious stimulus such as an injury, infection or allergy,” notes Edwin McDonald IV, M.D., assistant professor in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago. You can think of inflammation as a double-edged sword, according to Prakash Nagarkatti, Ph.D., senior research advisor to the president at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina and director of the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence on Dietary Supplements and Inflammation. “On the one hand you need it [inflammation] to protect you from infections and heal from wounds. On the other hand, excessive or chronic inflammation can cause severe damage to your organs and tissues,” he adds. Additionally, low grade chronic inflammation caused by insufficiency (like magnesium insufficiency, for example), has been linked to an increased risk of inflammatory-related diseases like heart disease and Alzheimer’s. There are two main types of inflammation. Acute inflammation happens within minutes to hours of an injury or infection (such as when you scrape your knee, have a sore throat, or pull a muscle in your back) and is characterized by fever, aches, and pains. This type of inflammation is considered useful because it is the body’s attempt to speed up the healing process or combat infections. On the other hand, low-grade chronic inflammation is a consistent, low-level type of inflammation that could persist for months or even years and has been shown to be linked with most clinical disorders, says Dr. Nagarkatti. Cytokines are molecules in your body that stimulate the immune system. Under normal circumstances, once an injury or infection threat is gone, immune cells stop producing these molecules. But when someone is living with chronic inflammation, in many cases, these cytokines are continually produced—which can cause issues. “If the immune cells continue to produce these cytokines, they will cause damage to the organs and tissues,” explains Dr. Nagarkatti. “Specifically, inflammation can do damage to DNA, which can impact how our cells function and replicate,” suggests Dr. McDonald. If unmanaged, inflammation occurring chronically or from an excessive, overexaggerated inflammatory response could lead to a range of diseases, he notes. Several lifestyle factors have also been found to encourage chronic inflammation that may be linked with increased risk of disease, such as diet, smoking or stress. There are multiple diseases tied to chronic inflammation, according to experts: Neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc.) Autoimmune diseases, when the body mistakenly attacks healthy cells, tissues, and organs (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, arthritis, lupus, etc.) Type 2 diabetes ~ heart disease ~ Some types of cancer ~ Obesity ~ Certain mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety 9 Anti-Inflammatory Supplements Backed by Science – Forbes Health
In this blend we started with Japanese Ceremony Grade Matcha. Matcha is rich in compounds that may provide many health benefits, such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), caffeine, and chlorogenic acid. One potential benefit is that it is extremely anti-inflammatory. With that we included our Steep Me Magnesium Blend. Steep Me Magnesium Blend not only reduces inflammation but reduces stress. Those with lower levels of magnesium often experience higher levels of stress, which lead to cravings, altered hormone levels and potentially depression. We also added Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 fat-soluble nutrient that plays a key role in immune health and may have powerful anti-inflammatory properties. is a critical nutrient that plays a role in regulating inflammation. It helps control the level of inflammation involved in the immune response, helping ensure that the inflammatory response is appropriate for healing and does not become overactive and harm tissues, she adds. Also, Vitamin C like vitamin D, is an essential vitamin that plays a huge role in immunity and inflammation. It is a powerful antioxidant, reducing inflammation by neutralizing free radicals that cause oxidative damage to your cells. It also optimizes the immune system in several other ways, which can help regulate inflammation — because inflammation is an immune response. Cayenne Pepper and Cinnamon contain a high amount of antioxidant compounds that could be involved in managing inflammation in the body. Specifically, capsaicin, which is a plant-based compound found in the fruit of this pepper type, could help with managing pain and swelling, and lowering inflammation. Ginger was also added because is a remedy for indigestion and nausea, including morning sickness during pregnancy. Two components of ginger — gingerol and zingerone — may help reduce inflammation related to several health conditions, including type 2 diabetes. Ginger consumption may also positively impact HbA1c (blood sugar control over 3 months) over time. Steep Me Potassium Blend Potassium can help reduce inflammation and pain. Steep Me Medicinal Mushroom Blend was added because it has bioactive components, such as beta-glucans and ergothioneine, that exhibit potent anti-inflammatory activities. Beta-glucans, a polysaccharide found in medical mushrooms, are known for their ability to modulate the immune response, helping the body fight against diseases. Ergothioneine, another bioactive component, is an antioxidant that helps protect cells in the body from damage. In addition to beta-glucans and ergothioneine, edible mushrooms also contain phenolic compounds, another group of bioactive compounds. These phenolic compounds also contribute to the anti-inflammatory activity of mushrooms. N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) was added because it is a compound made from one of the building blocks of protein, known as the amino acid L-cysteine, which is suggested to have antioxidant functions. One of NAC’s primary roles in the body is to act as a precursor to glutathione. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that is known to combat oxidative stress. When glutathione is depleted, researchers believe the body might be more susceptible to chronic inflammation and disease progression. Next, we included Steep Me Glutathione Blend. Steep Me Glutathione Blend is a thiol antioxidant, which helps your body regulate immunity. It has a significant role to play in reducing inflammation in the lungs specifically fights against free radical damage, glutathione provides immense anti-inflammatory relief to the body. Vitamin A was included because deficiency can increase infection risk and getting enough vitamin A can keep your immune system from being overactive and causing inflammation. Steep Me Vitamin B Blend was added because it can reduce inflammation in the body. B vitamins can lower C-reactive protein and homocysteine, positively impacting outcomes like cardiovascular disease and autoimmune conditions. Omega-3 fatty acids were included because they have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. Spirulina because it has strong antioxidant effects, it helps reduce inflammation, promotes healthy aging, and may strengthen the immune system.
