Blender’s Notes Plugged Milk Duct ~Mastitis Compress:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs helps with a Plugged Milk Duct or Mastitis. Mastitis is an inflammation of breast tissue that sometimes involves an infection. The inflammation results in breast pain, swelling, warmth and redness. You might also have fever and chills. Mastitis most commonly affects women who are breast-feeding (lactation mastitis). But mastitis can occur in women who are not breast-feeding and in men. Several causes can bring about Mastitis including a blocked milk duct in lactating women or bacteria entering the milk ducts of the breast tissue via a crack in the sign or the nipple. If left untreated Mastitis can cause a collection of pus (abscess) to develop in your breast. An abscess usually requires surgical drainage.
In this blend we combined Chamomile. Chamomile is sometimes called an “herbal aspirin” since it has been a popular home remedy for lowering pain for centuries. Chamomile flowers can help reduce pain, swelling and redness. The flavonoids and essential oils of Chamomile can penetrate below the skin surface into the deeper skin layers of the skin removing the infection and increasing your immune defenses. As a traditional medicine, it has been used for centuries to treat wounds, ulcers, eczema, gout, skin irritations, bruises, burns and canker sores. Burdock Root has been added because it is high in antioxidants and can remove toxins from the tissue while improving skin quality and reducing inflammation – and can really aid the lymphatic system. We also added Yarrow. Yarrow is very astringent, it will help fight the infection, as well as lower fever helping to relieve body aches and chills and is a great pain reliever for cracked and sore nipples, thereby diminishing the impacts of mastitis and aiding the lymphatic system to remove the infection. Comfrey was added because it contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties when applied to your skin. The high content of antioxidants, as well as vitamin C, makes comfrey pastes and salves the ideal solution for speeding up the healing of wounds. Antioxidants also help eliminate foreign substances in the body and preventing cell death, while vitamin C’s importance in producing collagen means that it is necessary to produce new skin cells for healing. Lavender was added because of its antibacterial components that have traditionally been used to relieve pain and could also have a calming effect on breast tissue and could be effective against mastitis. Calendula because the petals are rich in naturally occurring compounds called flavonoids. These compounds are said to have anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombogenic, antidiabetic, anticancer, and neuroprotective effects. And finally, we added Slippery Elm Bark. Slippery Elm can reduce inflammation, heal the skin, eliminate infections, reduce blood pressure, increase blood flow, detoxify the body which will help the bout of Mastitis to get cleared up quickly. Remember that this is a compress only. Please do not ingest this combination. Many of these herbs can influence breast milk production and should not be consumed.
