Blender’s Notes Chocolate Love:

What is Red Rooibos Tea? Our Red Rooibos is a great alternative to a standard tea because it has no caffeine. Many customers often use this as a wonderful desert tea option with low to no calories. This blend has the great rich taste of Rooibos (pronounced ROY-boss) with no added enhancements.
Red rooibos, also known as African red bush tea, originates from the Western Cape province of South Africa. The tea is made from the leaves of the Aspalathus linearis plant. The newly picked leaves are oxidized and fermented. The leaves are also bruised using machines to ensure oxidization. This imparts a rich red color to the tea. Rooibos is known for its unique flavor profile, which is sweet, nutty, and slightly earthy, making it a delightful alternative to traditional caffeinated teas.

Rooibos teas are free of caffeine.

This blend has the great rich taste of caffeine-free Red Rooibos with 72% Cacao Mini Chips.  Make a great hot chocolate…even add a bit of Chocolate Almond Milk…Yum.

Rooibos is a very unique type of tea…and it actually isn’t a part of the Camellia Sinensis plant at all.  Rooibos comes from a shrub Aspalathus linearis that  is a part of the legume family (e.g. peas, beans and peanuts) and grows to about four feet high and looks like a sagebrush. Since the 1700’s, Rooibos has been grown primarily from the mountainous Cederberg region of South Africa’s Western Cape.  This tea will have slightly red color and will have a slightly sweet taste.

Most of the harvest for Rooibos is done during the Summer months. The two types of Rooibos are Green and Red. The Green Rooibos is simply a plucked leaf that is dried and packaged. This has a more mild taste and a beautiful green color. The most popular is Red Rooibos (its namesake) and is plucked, fermented and oxidized giving it its rich red color. This version is a very creamy and sweeter taste.

Pu erh is also very forgiving when steeping, you can steep the leaves with boiling water for 10 minutes or several hours because it will not get bitter.  The flavor of Rooibos will get richer and creamier with longer steep times.
