Blender’s Notes H. Pylori ~ Digestive Health ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self-Help Tea combinations are a terrific way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All our teas go through a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more evaluating the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
With this blend we are helping to eliminate the large amount of H. Pylori (Helicobacter pylori) and the symptoms surrounding this diagnosis. H. pylori were the first bacteria to be formally recognized as a carcinogen and is an underlying root cause of many gastrointestinal disorders. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection occurs when Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria infect your stomach. This usually happens during childhood. A common cause of stomach ulcers (peptic ulcers), H. pylori infection may be present in more than half the people in the world. Most people do not realize they have H. pylori infection because they never get sick from it. Most people with H. pylori infection will never have any signs or symptoms. It is not clear why many people do not have symptoms. But some people may be born with more resistance to the harmful effects of H. pylori. When signs or symptoms do occur with H. pylori infection, they are typically related to gastritis or a peptic ulcer and may include: An ache or burning pain in your stomach (abdomen) ~ Stomach pain that may be worse when your stomach is empty ~ Nausea ~ Loss of appetite ~ Frequent burping ~ Bloating ~ and Unintentional weight loss. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection – Symptoms & causes – Mayo Clinic
In this blend we started with Green and Puerh Tea. Green tea may help inhibit H. pylori growth and reduce stomach inflammation, thanks to its catechins (especially EGCG), which show antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Inside Green Tea there is a Catechin called EGCG, epicatechin, epigallocatechin and these polyphenols disrupt H. pylori cell membranes and inhibit its adhesion to gastric mucosa. Green tea reduces gastric inflammation triggered by H. pylori, potentially easing gastritis symptoms and neutralizes free radicals, lowering oxidative stress in the stomach lining. Plus, Green Tea also helps suppress H. pylori proliferation, reduces bloating, nausea, and discomfort linked to gastritis, enhances antibiotic effectiveness and reduces recurrence risk and long-term green tea consumption has been linked to lower gastric cancer risk, though evidence is still being studied. Pu-erh tea shows promising antimicrobial and gut-supportive effects that may help suppress H. pylori. Pu-erh contains unique microbial metabolites (probiotics, prebiotics, and fungal byproducts) that may improve gut ecology and reduce pathogenic colonization. Pu-erh’s polyphenols of gallic acid, catechins, and quercetin have antibacterial activity and can disrupt bacterial membranes, like green tea catechins. Pu-erh dampens gastric inflammation, which is a major driver of H. pylori-related gastritis and ulcer risk and helps protect gastric mucosa from oxidative stress caused by chronic infection. Plus, Puerh is a great tea addition because it may reduce bacterial load and inhibit colonization, anti-inflammatory properties could ease gastritis-related discomfort, complement antibiotics by reducing recurrence risk and supporting gut flora balance and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions may lower gastric cancer risk in chronic infection contexts. Next, we included Peppermint Leaf. Peppermint can help relieve digestive discomfort, reduce nausea, and soothe gastric inflammation associated with the infection. The menthol & menthone can relax muscles in the stomach and intestines, easing indigestion, bloating, and cramping. Peppermint provides symptomatic relief for gastritis triggered by H. pylori. It protects gastric mucosa from oxidative stress, which is worsened by chronic infection and may inhibit bacterial growth. Slippery Elm was added because it is a powerful antioxidant herb that supports digestive and respiratory health. It contains a substance called mucilage that coats both the throat and intestinal lining during digestion. This gel-like coating soothes inflammation and increases mucus secretion to help with gut problems, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s, and inflammatory bowel disease. Slippery elm is prebiotic, high in soluble and insoluble fibers. Medicinal herbs with prebiotic properties, like Ulmus rubra, support intestinal health by producing short-chain fatty acids, protecting the function of the gut lining, improving the immune system response against foreign invaders, and controlling inflammation.
Next, we included Tears of Chios. Tears of Chios is a resin obtained from the Pistacia lentiscus tree, native to the Greek island of Chios which boasts traditional use in promoting antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activity that can help suppress H. pylori growth, reduce gastritis symptoms, and support ulcer healing. Tears of Chios contain antimicrobial compounds of terpenes, triterpenic acids, and essential oils that can disrupt H. pylori cell walls and inhibit enzymes needed for survival. Tears of Chios can reduce gastric inflammation and protect mucosal lining and neutralize free radicals, lowering oxidative stress in the stomach. Plus, it supports beneficial gut microbes, indirectly crowding out H. pylori. Aloe Leaf was also included. Aloe Leaf has soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties that can help protect the stomach lining and support healing in H. pylori-related gastritis and ulcers. Aloe Leaf has Mucilaginous polysaccharides (acemannan, glucomannan that help form a protective coating over gastric mucosa, reducing irritation from H. pylori and excess acid. Aloe compounds (anthraquinones, sterols) reduce cytokine-driven inflammation in the stomach lining, can help inhibit H. pylori growth, neutralize free radicals, lowering oxidative stress in gastric tissue and stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen synthesis, aiding ulcer repair. We also added Frankincense (Boswellia species) and Myrrh (Commiphora species). Frankincense contains Boswellic acids which inhibit inflammatory enzymes and reduce gastric inflammation and Myrrh is rich in terpenoids and sesquiterpenes which provide antimicrobial and analgesic effects. Traditional medicine often combines frankincense and myrrh, as their effects together are stronger than when used individually! Both resins suppress cytokines and inflammatory pathways, easing gastritis caused by H. pylori, Myrrh shows antibacterial activity, while frankincense has been studied for its ability to inhibit microbial growth, both protect gastric mucosa from oxidative stress, which is heightened during chronic infection and their combined wound-healing and analgesic properties may help repair ulcerated tissue. Frankincense (“Ru Xiang”) and myrrh (“Mo Yao”) are paired for pain, inflammation, and infection control in Traditional Medicine. Next is Egyptian Chamomile Flowers. Egyptian chamomile flowers (Matricaria chamomilla) which is prized for its high essential oil content can provide soothing, anti-inflammatory, and mild antimicrobial support in the context of H. pylori infection. Chamomile is rich in flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin, quercetin) which reduce gastric inflammation and inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines triggered by H. pylori. Chamomile has volatile oils (bisabolol, chamazulene) which provide anti-inflammatory and mild antibacterial effects, potentially suppressing H. pylori growth. Chamomile’s soothing compounds coat and calm the stomach lining, reducing irritation and ulcer risk and neutralizes free radicals, protecting gastric tissue from oxidative stress caused by chronic infection. Chamomile helps to relax stomach muscles, easing cramping and discomfort often associated with gastritis. Next, we added Turmeric root, ginger root, and rainbow peppercorns into the blend because each of these ingredients bring unique anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and digestive-supportive properties that can help manage H. pylori-related gastritis and ulcers. Together, they form a synergistic trio often used in traditional medicine. Turmeric Root contains curcumin, and this can inhibit H. pylori growth and reduces gastric inflammation. Turmeric blocks NF-κB and COX-2 pathways, lowering stomach lining irritation, protects gastric mucosa from oxidative stress caused by chronic infection and stimulates mucosal repair and reduces acid-induced damage. Ginger Root contains gingerols & shogaols which are integral for antibacterial activity, including against H. pylori, it reduces cytokine activity and gastric irritation, Ginger improves motility, reduces nausea, bloating, and indigestion—common H. pylori symptoms and enhances mucosal defense and lowers acid secretion. Rainbow Peppercorns contain piperine (active alkaloid) which helps enhance bioavailability of curcumin (up to 20x), making turmeric more effective. Peppercorns exhibit antibacterial activity, it is a digestive stimulant which helps increases gastric secretions and enzyme activity, aiding digestion and is a wonderful potentiator of turmeric rather than a standalone anti-H. pylori agent.
We also added in Onion and Garlic. Onion and garlic both contain sulfur-rich compounds with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that may help suppress H. pylori activity and protect the stomach lining. Garlic contains Allicin (active sulfur compound) which exhibits strong antibacterial activity, including against H. pylori , it disrupts bacterial enzymes and cell membranes, reducing colonization, Garlic lowers cytokine activity, easing gastric irritation and it protects gastric mucosa from oxidative stress caused by chronic infection while reducing H. pylori load and improve gastritis symptoms. Onion contains quercetin & sulfur compounds which provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that protect gastric tissue, Onion shows inhibitory effects on several bacteria, including H. pylori, though weaker than garlic and Onion compounds may help reduce ulcer formation and promote healing. Goldenseal was also included. Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) is a bitter North American herb traditionally used for infections and digestive complaints. Its main active compound, berberine, has shown antimicrobial activity against H. pylori. The main component of Goldenseal is Berberine (isoquinoline alkaloid) which is shown to directly inhibit H. pylori growth, disrupts bacterial enzymes and cell wall integrity, and reduces adhesion of H. pylori to gastric mucus. In addition, Goldenseal suppresses cytokine activity and reduces gastric irritation while it stimulates digestive secretions, improving motility and reducing dyspepsia symptoms. Goldenseal also protects gastric tissue from oxidative stress caused by chronic infection. Next, we added Thyme. Thyme leaf (Thymus vulgaris) contains potent essential oils and polyphenols that may help suppress H. pylori growth, reduce gastric inflammation, and protect the stomach lining. Thyme contains thymol & carvacrol (essential oils) which are strong antimicrobial agents that disrupt bacterial membranes, including H. pylori. Thyme also contains rosmarinic acid & flavonoids which provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory protection for gastric tissue and the essential oils in Thyme help reduce spasms and ease digestive discomfort. We also added Skullcap. Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) shows promising antimicrobial activity against H. pylori thanks to its flavonoids (baicalin, baicalein, wogonin) which are potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant molecules that protect gastric mucosa and exhibits antimicrobial and immune-modulating effects . It may help reduce bacterial growth, reduce inflammation by suppressing cytokine activity, reducing gastritis symptoms and ulcer risk and oxidative stress in the stomach. Next, we added Senna Leaf. Senna leaf (Senna alexandrina) is primarily known as a stimulant laxative it plays a positive role in gut health by improving bowel motility and reducing toxin buildup. Senna contains sennosides (anthraquinone glycosides) which help Stimulate intestinal peristalsis, promoting bowel movements and may provide mild antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Senna can help clear waste and reduce stagnation, which may indirectly support digestive health. It has mild systemic effects that can ease discomfort and are great at detoxing. Next, we added in Mahasudarshan. Mahasudarshan Churna is a polyherbal blend—rich in bitter, antimicrobial, and detoxifying herbs that can provide supportive benefits by reducing gastric inflammation, improving digestion, and helping the body resist infection. A polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation with many ingredients, including Chirata, Triphala, Turmeric, Kutki, Neem, Giloy, Licorice, Cinnamon, Clove, Ashwagandha, and others. This blend is used for fevers, infections, liver health, and detoxification and digestive balance. Mahasudarshan contains herbs like neem, turmeric, kutki, and daruharidra (berberine source) that show antibacterial effects, potentially suppressing H. pylori. It also contains bitter principles (chirata, kutki, giloy) which help reduce gastric inflammation and protect mucosa. It can help improve digestion and clears toxins, which Ayurveda views as underlying contributors to chronic infection. It helps protect gastric tissue from oxidative stress and support ulcer repair and soothe irritation. Finally, we added in Licorice Root. Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is one of the most studied herbs for gastric health. It shows antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and mucosal-protective properties that make it a valuable supportive agent against H. pylori infection. It contains Glycyrrhizin & glycyrrhetinic acid which are anti-inflammatory and soothing to gastric mucosa, it contains antioxidant flavonoids of liquiritigenin and isoliquiritigenin for stomach protection.

Benefits
When talking about the many types of tea, Tisane (Herbal Infusion) or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is really not tea at all. It is made like a tea and all the same items are used to make it, but it does not contain the Camellia Sinensis Plant (unless stated), but is simply roots, flowers, leaves, and fruits put together is a combination that is made just like a tea. With that being said…the health benefits of a Tisane or Herbal teas are different. They can vary depending on the ingredients and combination of herbs so there are no blanket health benefits – just depends on the ingredients. For many, the best part of Tisane or Herbal Tea or Self-Help Tea is the fact that it is caffeine free naturally. Of course there are herbs that can be added to change that. The most popular Herbal teas include Chamomile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and any combination of fruit blends or infusions. Our Self-Help Teas are simply supplemental herbal combinations to aid with an occasional ailment specific to what may be happening in your life. The teas are built to work and are not build with any specific flavorings. The blends are tested to the minimum requirements laid out by Steep Me A Cup of Tea. The taste provided is natural to the herbs present in the blend. No flavorings added. This/these claim(s) has/have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
