Blenders Notes Mental Health .. Bipolar ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a great way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love for you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All of our teas go thru a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more testing the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
This blend was built to help assist your body with mental health concerns and the difficulties that can come with a bipolar diagnosis. Bipolar disorder – previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and periods of abnormally elevated mood. During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy, or irritable, and they often make impulsive decisions with little regard for the consequences. There is usually also a reduced need for sleep during manic phases. During periods of depression, the individual may experience crying and have a negative outlook on life and poor eye contact with others. The risk of suicide is high; over a period of 20 years, 6% of those with bipolar disorder died by suicide, while 30–40% engaged in self-harm. Other mental health issues, such as anxiety disorders and substance use disorders, are commonly associated with bipolar disorder.
In this blend we added Ashwagandha because it is a nervine tonic that can help to improve the symptoms of bipolar disorder. The active ingredient in ashwagandha was able to improve three separate cognitive functions for those suffering from this disease. It helps with auditory-verbal working memory, social cognition, and reaction time. Black Cohosh was added since it is a sedative and a nervous system depressant and is often used by those with autoimmune diseases due to its anti-inflammatory effects. Black Cohosh has been used by Native American tribes for generations for many mood disorders. Sarsaparilla Root because it calms the stomach, nerves, and is a well-known mild sedative. Bacopa Leaf is also helpful for those with bipolar disorder because it works as both a mild stimulant as well as a mild sedative at the same time, which will help to stabilize moods. St. John’s Wort is a popular for the treatment of depression. We also included Gingko Biloba to be able to boost your memory power, is a powerful antioxidant for the treatment of dementia and Gingko improves the blood flow to the brain, so it might help those who suffer from bipolar disorder. Ginseng Powder has an energizing effect which can help those in the depressive state of bipolar disorder, especially when accompanied by feelings of extreme lethargy or fatigue. We also included Magnesium since it is a natural mood balancer, and it can help to reduce the symptoms of mania. Magnesium also encourages restful sleep. Many people find that their insomnia and feelings of anxiety disappear when they take magnesium. Gotu Kola because it is recommended for those with depression and anxiety and is used to balance overall brain function. It is famously recognized for its ability to enhance blood circulation and support memory function. More specifically, this herb is also an adaptogen, meaning that it can help your body to ‘adapt’ to stress more effectively… Something that also helps with mental clarity! Valerian Root is known for its powerful sedative compounds, which help to calm the nervous system. It is often used as an alternative medication for those suffering from insomnia, feelings of anxiety, and mood disorders. Valerian encourages feelings of calmness, reduces nervous tension, stress, restlessness, feelings of anxiety, and regulates mild to moderate mood swings. Damiana is a traditional herbal remedy for depression. It is also thought to have aphrodisiac capabilities and may leave you feeling energized which is helpful when you are on the “down” side of your cycle. Passionflower was added because it has a soothing effect to the nerves, which can help to provide the proper balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Passionflower may act on GABA receptors in the brain and is considered an effective stress reducer.
Finally, we finished off the blend with Chaga Mushroom because it may show an increase in cognitive ability. Oregano because it is high in antioxidants and great a reducing inflammation. Shilajit is said to improve cognition and may be able to help prevent or delay the onset of the disease. Fulvic acid in shilajit may be responsible for its potential to protect against dementia. The fulvic acid in this herbal cure may help by blocking tau protein aggregation. The buildup of tau protein is thought to impair brain cells involved in learning and memory and has been noticed in people with neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease or with cognitive impairment. Rehmannia Root can help improve stress resilience and mood by enhancing the body’s antioxidant defense and Hops which may have potential in promoting brain and heart health. Hops are also used to ease anxiety and stress and promote better sleep.
