Blender’s Notes SIBO ~ Hydrogen & Methane WIP:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a great way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love for you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All of our teas go thru a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more testing the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
With the blend we are helping with Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) that occurs when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract. A small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) commonly results when a circumstance — such as surgery or disease — slows the passage of food and waste products in the digestive tract, creating a breeding ground for bacteria. The excess bacteria often cause diarrhea and may cause weight loss and malnutrition. Patients with bacterial overgrowth typically develop symptoms which may include nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, malnutrition, weight loss and malabsorption, which is caused by a number of mechanisms.
A breath test is a common test for diagnosing SIBO. Excess bacteria in the small intestine can lead to the release of the gas’s hydrogen and methane, which can be identified through a breath test. Most of the herbs we have included in this blend are antimicrobial and will be in both versions which will function as an antibiotic instead of using a prescription option. Then we added extra herbs into each recipe individually to address the different gases specifically and to help reduce symptoms and send you on the road to recovery.
SIBO ~ Hydrogen
In this blend we started with Oregano. Oregano does a great job of inhibiting the growth of intestinal microbes. It will kill the bacteria by breaking the cell membrane around it while keeping healthy microbiome intact and this is due to a compound known as carvacrol. Carvacrol can puncture bacterial cell membranes, effectively eliminating the bacteria. But it is known to do less damage than conventional antibiotics. Thymol can stimulate your digestive enzymes which can help with gut motility and digestive function. This can lead to reducing gut inflammation and reducing overall gut symptoms. Ginger possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, and anticoagulant properties and helps promote gut motility which will aid digestion. The active ingredient in Garlic is Allicin. Allicin helps to eliminate the hydrogen producing bacteria while also supporting the lining of the small intestine. It is found to help relieve the constipation-heavy symptoms of SIBO. Cloves possess a strong inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus. Turmeric Root has high anti-inflammatory properties when paired with the peppercorns. Sage and Peppercorns have high amounts of minerals and antioxidants and can aid in digestion. Thyme has high levels of antioxidants. Echinacea may possess antiviral properties and could help treat infections and this could help prevent the unnecessary use of antibiotics that could result in drug-resistance. Yellow Dock has been traditionally used for ailments of the stomach and as a digestive tonic due to its astringent and bitter properties. Bitter herbs encourage bile production in the liver and gall bladder. This improves the digestion and absorption of food, especially fatty foods. Yellow dock root has traditionally been used to support digestion and appetite. The bitter constituents found in yellow dock can increase bile production, and thus help to improve digestion. Licorice root will support your adrenal health and is a demulcent to support healthy mucosa and gut healing.
We also added Elderflower can help reduce inflammation and boost your immunity! Eucalyptus is a natural antiseptic which kills certain fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Slippery Elm Bark is a digestive aid. The mucilage found in its bark is ideal for soothing the digestive tract and eliminating inflammation, primarily the type that causes irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or SIBO. There is also a significant amount of fibrous tissue found in the bark, which can help to bulk up the stool and eliminate issues like diarrhea. Overall, it is a full-service gastrointestinal cleaner and has been used as such for thousands of years. Slippery Elm is high in certain acids and coats the lining of the intestines and has high levels of anti-inflammatories. Lady’s Mantle may help to improve digestion and ease stomach cramps due mostly in part to its salicylic acid content. Consuming Lady’s Mantle tea may also help to prevent indigestion, bloating and diarrhea. Pau D’ Arco has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is thought to inhibit the processes bacteria and fungi need to produce oxygen and energy. Goldenseal is a powerful and potent immune system stimulant. Medical research has shown that Goldenseal blocks streptococcus bacteria from colonizing within the human body. may possess antimicrobial, anticancer, and immune-stimulant properties. Marshmallow Root has been used for centuries and can provide digestive relief. It works by coating and soothing irritated gut linings. It has anti-inflammatory properties that are important for overall gut health. It is commonly used in combination with other herbal supplements. And finally, we added Yarrow has long been used to treat digestive issues like ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), SIBO and symptoms of which include stomach pain, diarrhea, bloating, and constipation. This herb contains several flavonoids and alkaloids, which are plant compounds known to relieve digestive complaints.
