Blender’s Notes Prolactin Reduction ~ Hyperprolactinemia ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a great way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love for you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All our teas go through a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more evaluating the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
This combination of herbs was built to help with the over production of Prolactin or Hyperprolactinemia for women and men. It is an endocrine system disorder that causes the body to produce higher-than-normal levels of prolactin. According to ReproductiveFacts.org homepage | ReproductiveFacts.org from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Hyperprolactinemia is most caused by a benign or noncancerous prolactin-secreting pituitary tumor (prolactinoma), or diseases that affect the pituitary gland. Other potential causes are: hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) ~ injuries or trauma to the thoracic or chest wall which includes the rib cage, diaphragm and upper abdomen (surgical scars and tumors) or health conditions that have affected this area of the body (Herpes zoster also known as shingles) ~ chronic liver or kidney disease ~ blood pressure and pain medications (specifically the use of opiates for pain), SSRI antidepressants, antipsychotics, medications for ulcers and gastrointestinal reflux, and prescription estrogen for menopause. Prolactin is a hormone released from the pituitary gland which is controlled by the hypothalamus. The pituitary gland is the “master gland” responsible for regulating the thyroid, adrenal, and reproductive glands. These glands make hormones that control growth and development of the body, metabolism, stress response, and the reproductive cycle. The pituitary gland also produces the key female and male reproductive hormones luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), as well as estrogen and progesterone for females and testosterone for males. It is the anterior pituitary gland that secretes prolactin. The hormone called dopamine is one of the main regulators of the production of prolactin from the pituitary gland, which is produced by the hypothalamus, the part of the brain directly above the pituitary gland. For women, excess prolactin interferes with ovulation, and no ovulation means no period which explains the irregular cycles and infertility causing a decreased libido. For Men, excess Prolactin ~ Reduces libido and lengthens refractory period ~ Makes you hypersensitive to stress ~ Prolactin stimulates the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis ~ It increases CRH and ACTH, which will lead to higher cortisol levels ~ Makes you feel flat ~ Low dopamine symptoms, such as low motivation, drive, and focus ~ Contributes to insulin resistance ~ is associated with anxiety, hostility and depression ~ Lowers testosterone ~ Contributes to infertility. Factors can raise prolactin levels slightly ~ stress ~ exercise ~ eating ~ sex ~ mild thyroid disease ~ alcohol ~ luteal phase or dramatically ~ thyroid disease ~kidney or liver disease ~ certain medications ~ a prolactinoma ~ hormonal birth control ~ alcohol. The Oestrogen hormone is also a key regulator of prolactin and has been shown to increase the production and secretion of prolactin from the pituitary gland. Apart from dopamine and oestrogen, a full range of other hormones, like thyrotropin releasing hormone, oxytocin and diuretic hormone can also increase and decrease the amount of prolactin released in the body.
In this blend we started with Zinc and Vitamin C. Zinc is one of the main nutrients behind healthy testosterone production, and it is also not a super big secret that zinc deficiency destroys testosterone levels. What most people do not know is that zinc also reduces prolactin levels. Zinc tends to work together with vitamin B6 in the human body. Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that is a primary prolactin inhibitor supplement. Vitamin B6 has a mechanism that will inhibit the prolactin production by increasing the dopaminergic effect in the hypothalamus because we know that dopamine and prolactin oppose each other. Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that is extremely effective at helping the body cope with anxiety and stress. The more cortisol you have running through your veins, the less your body is able to stay in the anabolic state required to build muscle and reduce Prolactin. Ashwagandha’s most prominent impact is its ability to significantly lower cortisol levels. Cortisol holds an inverse relationship with testosterone, i.e., higher cortisol equals lower testosterone and vice versa. So not only is ashwagandha anti-catabolic, but it doubles down on this effect by allowing an increased production of testosterone as well. Next, we included White Peony. White Peony contains phytoestrogens that are structurally like estrogen, the primary female sex hormone, and they act like estrogen in the body. Paeoniflorin, a main compound in white peony, has been found to increase the activity of aromatase, an enzyme that turns testosterone into estrogen. The compound also reduces testosterone synthesis and reduced Prolactin. Gentian Root was added because it can make the liver healthier, stimulate liver function and assist in regenerating the cells while increasing bile flow. This herb is also effective in preventing the growth of viruses that can cause liver malfunction. It can energize the blood and circulate all parts of your body by strengthening the whole cardiovascular system. Gentian roots are helpful in the treatment of hysteria and prevent it from occurring, which can also improve health conditions while balances thyroidal hormone secretion. Dong Quai was added because it has a number of potent health advantages, including the capacity to regulate hormone levels, boost sex drive in both sexes, treat infertility, lessen menstrual cramps, and enhance cardiovascular health. The herb is a blood purifier and thinner that can also improve mental, skin, and bone health. It can also increase energy levels and prevent anemia.
Next is Chaste Tree. Chaste Tree can lower prolactin naturally because of the dopaminergic effects and has been shown to inhibit prolactin secretion, which helps to decrease PMS symptoms. It is also known to encourage hormone balance and menstrual cycle regulation; it encourages a normal luteal phase by supporting the body’s natural progesterone levels and promotes regular ovulation. We also included Self-Heal. Self-Heal helps lowers prolactin through D2 and DAT modulation. Apart from its dopaminergic properties, it also has strong antiestrogenic properties (antagonism of the estrogen receptor), which should also help to lower prolactin. Mucuna Pruriens was added because it boosts dopamine production and overall brain function because it is filled with L-Dopa which is a precursor of dopamine. Dopamine works in the brain as a feel-good chemical messenger as it stimulates the reward centers within the brain. Inadequate amounts of dopamine are associated with a variety of nervous system dysfunctions, including Parkinson’s Disease and Hyperprolactinemia. It has been shown that Mucuna increased sperm concentration and motility in infertile men, it can increase testosterone production, luteinizing hormone, dopamine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline levels. It also worked to reduce levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and prolactin in men. Akebi fruit because it contains antioxidants, including flavonoids and polyphenols, which can help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. Antioxidants are believed to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and it is used to promote digestive health. It has elevated levels of antioxidants, including vitamin C, which protects your body from oxidative stress caused by free radicals. The high fiber content helps to regulate the digestive system, improving gut health and preventing constipation. Akebi is a reliable source of essential minerals like potassium and manganese. Potassium is essential for heart and kidney functions, while manganese is beneficial for bone health and helps in the metabolism of proteins and carbohydrates. Vitamin E was added because it helps in balancing your endocrine and nervous systems, which thereby works towards the balancing of the hormones. Next, we included Gardenia. Gardenia is used to fight pains, aches and discomfort associated with headaches, PMS, arthritis, injuries including sprains and muscle cramps. It also has certain stimulating qualities that may even help lift your mood and enhance cognition. It has been found that it can improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and help deliver more oxygen and nutrients to parts of the body that need healing. For this reason, traditionally it was given to people fighting chronic pains, fatigue, and hormone imbalances. Kushta Root because it is commonly employed in formulations to treat respiratory disorders, digestive issues, and inflammatory conditions. It is revered for its aphrodisiac qualities and is often used to enhance sexual health. Kushta Root is prized for its ability to balance hormones and support reproductive health. It is particularly beneficial for women’s health, aiding in the regulation of menstrual cycles and easing symptoms of menopause. Kushta Root is known for its adaptogenic properties, helping the body cope with stress, and promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. It can uplift mood and improve overall emotional well-being. Arecae is used as a stimulant for increasing alertness and stamina and giving the user a sense of well-being and euphoria. It has also been used as a stimulant for libido and to alleviate symptoms of excessive heat. Next, we added Rehmannia because it can help lower blood sugar, reduce pain, decrease swelling and positively impact the immune system. Finally, we included Skullcap. Skullcap is a popular method to balance the hormones in your body, as it stimulates the release of endorphins and balances your mood. Phenolic compounds can have a wide range of effect on our hormonal balance, as they happen to be rich in antioxidant compounds.
