Blender’s Notes Red Blood Cell:
Steep Me Self Help combinations are a fantastic way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. This combination of herbs was built to help our athletes – get your bodies to recover sooner, hold onto your Iron, increase fat burning, and reduce anxiety. This blend will help with increasing your red blood cells in sedentary individuals as well. RBCs are responsible for transporting oxygen to cells, tissues, and organs throughout the body. Therefore, iron deficiency tends to lead to lower levels of both red blood cells and hemoglobin. This results in blood carrying less oxygen to muscles and the brain, which can negatively impact performance. Red blood cells, known as erythrocytes, contain a protein called hemoglobin, this protein binds both oxygen and carbon dioxide for transport through the body. The number of red blood cells may be expressed in terms of concentration or as hematocrit, the ratio of blood cells to blood volume. Concentrations average 4.7 million red blood cells per milliliter of blood for women and 5.2 million for men. Hematocrit averages 41 for women and 45 for men. Anemia is the medical word for when your red blood cell count is low. It can also mean that your red blood cells are the wrong size (too small or too big), or they are otherwise not healthy and working as they should be. The signs and symptoms of low red blood cell count can be mild to severe. They may come on quickly or slowly over time, depending on how low your numbers are and your overall health. Common symptoms of low red blood cell count include Lack of energy ~ Sleepiness ~ Pale skin ~ Headaches ~ Dizziness ~ Irritability ~ Trouble concentrating ~ Tachycardia (rapid heart rate) ~ Hypotension (low blood pressure). Severe anemia can cause fainting, shortness of breath, heart failure, and organ damage. If it goes on without treatment (e.g., because they have an undiagnosed condition that affects the red blood cells) or a person loses a lot of blood very fast (e.g., because they were badly hurt in an accident), not having enough red blood cells can lead to organ failure and death. There are many causes of a low red blood cell count. In most cases, the condition happens when your body is not making enough red blood cells or your red blood cells are getting used up or damaged. Common causes of low red blood cell count include Vitamin B12 deficiency ~ Iron deficiency ~ Chronic bleeding ~ Gastrointestinal problems that affect nutrient absorption ~ Chemotherapy (a medicine used to kill cancer cells) ~ Bone marrow disorders (e.g., aplastic anemia, a condition where your body stops producing enough red blood cells) ~ Cancer (e.g., bone marrow cancer) ~ Kidney disease ~ Severe malnutrition. Exercise encourages your body to make more red blood cells (erythropoiesis). Your body normally breaks down red blood cells every three to four months, but it is also constantly making new ones that replace the ones that are lost. Exercising may cause older red blood cells to break down and get recycled faster. However, the new red blood cells will be better able to carry oxygen than the older ones, so the natural process improves your health overall. Low red blood cells can be a sign of medical conditions that need treatment or lifestyle factors that need adjusting. You can raise your red blood cells back up to a normal, healthy level by making sure you are getting enough of the nutrients that your body needs for healthy red blood cell production, exercising regularly, taking a supplement if your provider recommends it, and avoiding excess alcohol. How to Increase Red Blood Cells: Foods, Lifestyle, and More (verywellhealth.com)
This blend we based it on Green Tea. Green tea is packed with antioxidants, particularly catechins, which have numerous health benefits. Green tea has been shown to help reduce muscle damage and oxidative stress after exercise. It can help increase metabolism and aid in weight management. While it has a mild diuretic effect, green tea still contributes to overall hydration. Regular consumption can improve heart health and circulation. The antioxidants in green tea can help strengthen the immune system. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help with recovery and reduce inflammation. Next, we added Yerba Mate. The compounds in yerba mate help optimize the body’s use of carbohydrates for energy, which can improve endurance levels and reduce fatigue during physical activity. Furthermore, yerba mate’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties assist in muscle recovery and pain reduction post-exercise. Yerba mate is packed with antioxidants, which help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals1. This can be particularly beneficial for athletes who engage in intense physical activity, as their bodies produce more free radicals during exercise. The caffeine and other stimulants in yerba mate can help increase energy levels and improve endurance during workouts. Yerba mate helps prevent oxidative stress, which can damage red blood cells. This can improve overall blood health and oxygen delivery to muscles, aiding in recovery. Combining yerba mate, which is a natural energizer and allows the body to hold onto Iron (Ferritin) with a carbohydrate meal before exercise has been shown to improve performance and increase blood antioxidant status markers. Hyssop was added because it may help prevent the destruction of red blood cells, which is important for maintaining healthy blood levels. Astragalus was included because it is also hematopoietic which means it can increase red blood cell count, too. Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and carbon dioxide from the rest of the body to the lungs. Additionally, astragalus is antihypertensive, as it has been shown to dilate peripheral blood vessels.
Next, we added Echinacea. It is thought that Echinacea improves the blood’s oxygen carrying capacity by increasing production of erythropoietin (EPO), a glycoprotein that regulates red blood cell formation. Subsequently, these changes would lead to an overall improvement in maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2max) and running economy (RE), two markers of aerobic fitness. Strawberry leaves were added because they are indeed beneficial for red blood cells1! They contain iron, which is essential to produce hemoglobin and red blood cells2. Including strawberry leaves in your diet can help improve your blood health and prevent anemia. Wild Yam because it contains copper and iron, which are essential for blood circulation and the production of red blood cells. Additionally, wild yam has manganese, which acts as a co-factor for antioxidant enzymes that help protect red blood cells from oxidative damage. Fenugreek can be beneficial for red blood cells due to its high iron content. Iron is essential to produce hemoglobin, which is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. By increasing your iron intake with fenugreek, you can help support the production of healthy red blood cells and improve oxygen delivery to your tissues. Finally, we added Rhodiola. The herb has energy-enhancing potential that comes from its ability to increase red blood cell count. Red Blood cells are the carriers of oxygen and nutrients to muscles. With an increase in their number, more nutrients and oxygen get supplied, preventing muscle fatigue, and improving exercise performance.
