Gunpowder tea (zhÅ« chá; ‘pearl tea’) is named for the fact that its visual appearance resembles that of gunpowder. The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size, and style so that they can be individually rolled by hand and according to tradition by experienced tea experts into very small, tight pellets. I Gunpowder tea production dates back to the Tang dynasty (618–907). Black Gunpowder Tea is made with black tea where the leaves were allowed to oxidize and ferment before they were rolled and dried. This Black Gunpowder tea (also called “Black Pearls”) native to Zhejiang Province, in the eastern coast of China.  Gunpowder tea usually keeps for much longer than other tea and is favored because of this characteristic. Black Gunpowder presents a pleasantly aromatic, mild, and full-bodied taste with a slight smoky note. The leaf has been rolled to pearls and has a shining anthracite color. The infusion is medium-dark, the bouquet aromatic and round.
