Blender’s Notes Sleep 2.0 ~ Tremors ~ WIP:
Steep Me Self Help combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. The blends in our Work in Progress section are still in their testing phases…. We would love for you to try the blends and give us feedback on how you felt they were working. All our teas go through a thorough testing phase to ensure we are finding success in the combination. Once we have 100 people or more evaluating the blend and we are starting to see the same results in 60 or more of the testers…these blends will move to the Self-Help section.
Steep Me Self Help Tea combinations are a wonderful way to get health benefits outside of the standard tea leaf. With this new blend we are working with the central nervous system instead of trying to enhance the body with muscle relaxers that are used in the insomnia blend. This blend focuses on the central nervous system by calming and cooling the system by using Nervine Herbs. The central nervous system (CNS) is a division of the nervous system whose function is to analyze and integrate various intra- and extra personal information, as well as to generate a coordinated response to these stimuli. Put simply, the CNS is the supreme command center of the body. The CNS consists of two organs which are continuous with each other; the brain and spinal cord. They are enveloped and protected by three layers of meninges and encased within two bony structures: the skull and vertebral column, respectively. The brain consists of the cerebrum, subcortical structures, brainstem, and cerebellum. The spinal cord continues inferiorly from the brainstem and extends through the vertebral canal. While analyzing the information and preparing adequate body responses, the parts of the brain and spinal cord communicate with each other via many neural pathways. Once the final output is ready, they convey it to the rest of the body via nerves of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), which stem directly from them. Nervine herbs are beneficial for the nourishment and support of the central nervous system, including the brain and nerves. They also work to restore balance and restfulness in the body. In the same way that healthy food provides nutrients and energy to our body, nervine herbs help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety in the nervous system. The nervous system is responsible for sending messages from the brain to the rest of the body, and vice versa. All the other parts of the body are dependent upon the nervous system for proper functioning. Nervine herbs are often consumed with other herbs or medications that support different systems and structures of the body. This is known as a complementary medicine and can be used as a more natural alternative to medications for treating symptoms such as anxiety or insomnia. These herbs can relieve muscle tension, nourish the nervous system, and ease the body are called nervine stimulants. It works by directly invigorating the nervous system and even aids digestion. However, during times of hyperactivity, depression, or tension, it is best to avoid these herbs as they may intensify these feelings and emotions. Poor nervous system health can be at the root of several common conditions, such as: Anxiety ~ Depression ~ Stress ~ Cognitive decline, concentration issues, and memory loss ~ Sleep problems and insomnia ~ Headaches. And when things go really wrong, serious nervous system disorders can occur, such as: Alzheimer’s disease ~ Parkinson’s disease ~ Multiple Sclerosis ~ Strokes ~ Traumatic brain injuries ~ Epilepsy ~ As you can see, when your nervous system is unhealthy, damaged, or imbalanced, it can lead to many different symptoms and even serious neurodegenerative disorders. Nervine Herbs 101: Your Simple Guide – The Sacred Science
What are Essential Tremors? Essential tremor is a nervous system condition, also known as a neurological condition, which causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking. It can affect almost any part of the body, but trembling occurs most often in the hands, especially when doing simple tasks, such as drinking from a glass or tying shoelaces. Essential tremor symptoms Begin gradually and usually are more noticeable on one side of the body, worsen with movement, usually occur in the hands first, affecting one hand or both hands, can include a “yes-yes” or “no-no” motion of the head, May be aggravated by emotional stress, fatigue, caffeine or temperature extremes. What are Night Tremors or Sleep Myoclonus? The symptoms of sleep myoclonus occur when a person falls asleep or during sleep. It causes unpredictable and involuntary muscle jerks or spasms that may affect a single muscle or multiple muscle groups. These movements may include ~ sudden jerking of the arms, legs, or torso ~ shock-like muscle twitches that last for a brief period ~ localized or widespread muscle spasms ~ muscle spasms that occur in response to external stimuli. This blend is based on our high-quality Hops. Hops is one of the oldest, most used sedatives of all time. t is primarily a calming agent, used for conditions that reflect over-activation, restlessness, or nervousness. Its main clinical uses are for sleep problems, including those related to anxiety, but also for people who tend to wake in the middle of the night. It is also used for all types of anxiety, but especially when it is due to excessive worry or a nervous nature. Hops have also been used for depression. Hops influence the brain’s primary calming mechanism: the GABA system. This is also targeted by many pharmaceutical sedatives, including Ambien, Ativan, and Valium. I tend to prefer hops to these drugs when treating insomnia. Insomnia often occurs when we become overstimulated or anxious, and hops help settle that tension. Then, as anxiety eases, stress hormones drop. We then added Ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is an herb that supports resilience while protecting the body from stress. This strongly aromatic root extract is a grounding nervine, helping restore vitality after exhaustion and depletion. Ashwagandha can help a muddled mind regain clarity and may even stimulate regeneration of nervous tissue in the brain. Ashwagandha helps to normalize the stress response and bring the sympathetic nervous system back to balance after prolonged states of activation. This potent herb helps the body better cope with stress. Ashwagandha supports deeper, more restful sleep at night so you can feel refreshed in the morning. We also included Skullcap. Skullcap is a nervous system tonic as well as a nervotrophorestorative that can help calm an overexcited or strained nervous system. Additionally, its mildly sedative properties make it a great option for those who have trouble sleeping due to an overactive mind or spinning worrying thoughts. Skullcap’s antispasmodic action can relax twitching muscles and ease muscle tension. Besides, skullcap is often used to ease withdrawal symptoms when quitting any substance. Its calming effect on the nervous system is due to its action on GABA receptors. One of the most reliable restoratives to the autonomic nervous system, Skullcap provides gentle tonic relief when taken regularly and quiets the “monkey mind,” helping to calm repetitive thought patterns. Particularly well suited for those that have muscle spasms or jitters, skullcap is supportive for restless insomnia and other irritable muscular conditions. Lavender was added because it has long been known for its calming and relaxing properties and lavender can help reduce tremors by enhancing brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that helps calm the nervous system. Lavender can help to reduce anxiety and promote feelings of well-being. Lavender contains a natural compound called linalool, which is responsible for its mood-lifting and anxiety-reducing effects.
Next, we included Spearmint and Peppermint. Spearmint is known for its calming and relaxing properties, which can help promote better sleep and support the central nervous system. The menthol in spearmint interacts with GABA receptors in the brain, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is known for its calming and relaxing properties, which can be beneficial for sleep and central nervous system support. The menthol in peppermint acts as a muscle relaxant, which can help ease tension and promote relaxation before bedtime. This can contribute to better sleep quality and overall relaxation. Spearmint and Peppermint have been shown to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties, which can be beneficial for managing essential tremors. These properties help reduce muscle tension and alleviate pain, which can contribute to reducing tremors. Wild lettuce was included because it is known for its sedative and analgesic properties, which can be beneficial for sleep and central nervous system support. The plant contains compounds like lactucin and lactucopicrin, which interact with the brain’s neurotransmitters to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality. These compounds also have pain-relieving effects, making wild lettuce a natural remedy for managing pain and promoting restful sleep. Next, we included St. John’s Wort. St. John’s Wort is well-known for its mood-enhancing properties, but it can also support sleep and the central nervous system. The herb contains active compounds like hypericin and hyperforin, which are believed to interact with neurotransmitters in the brain, helping to balance serotonin levels and reduce anxiety. This can lead to improved sleep quality and overall relaxation. Holy Basil, also known as Tulsi, is a powerful adaptogen that can support both sleep and the central nervous system. It has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years due to its calming and stress-reducing properties. Holy Basil helps lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone, which can improve sleep quality. It positively affects GABA receptors in the brain, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, Holy Basil can help create a more conducive environment for sleep.
We also added Lemon Balm. Lemon Balm has a cooling, calming effect on the nerves. Lemon balm is especially helpful for those who tend to be anxious and nervous, as it tones and restores the nervous system and Lemon balm has calming effects and can help reduce anxiety and stress, which can contribute to tremors. It has a calming energy to support nervous system, gut, heart and liver health by pacifying anxiety and overstimulation. California Poppy was added because it is traditionally used for calming support for the nervous system and may have sedative and anxiety-reducing qualities. We added Passionflower. Passionflower is a gentle herb that can ease anxiety, spasms, and inflammation while also having sedative effects which can help with tremors. It was traditionally used by Native Americans for bruises and easing muscle pain. The compounds in passionflower (quercetin) are amazingly effective in getting rid of harmful free radicals and inhibiting enzymes that cause inflammation. This compound has also been found to relax the nervous system and help relieve pain related to nerves. Catnip was added because it is a strong-smelling herb that has been thought to possess many medicinal properties including helping with anxiety, nervousness, and insomnia. It contains nepetalactone, an active ingredient, which helps in improving relaxation, anxiety, mood, restlessness, and nervousness. Oat Straw was added because it is an incredible superfood for the nervous system and is an excellent tonic remedy that calms shattered nerves. This makes it an excellent choice for those who are looking for a natural way to manage their stress levels and promote overall peace and tranquility and has the best tropho-restorative herbs for the nervous system. We added Kava Kava. Kava Kava can induce states of tranquility, peace, and can help manage anxiety, insomnia, and muscle tension. White Willow Bark was added because it contains salicylate glycosides, and they work as an effective anti-inflammatory by interfering with pain transmission in the nervous system and by treating the cause of inflammation. Jujube was also added. Jujube possesses neuroprotective activities, including protecting neuronal cells against neurotoxin stress, stimulating neuronal differentiation, increasing expression of neurotrophic factors, and promoting memory and learning. Jujube fruits are a rich source of compounds such as flavonoids, polysaccharides, and triterpenic acids which can help promote sleep. Finally, we included a bit of Valerian. Valerian has been used for reducing anxiety, stress, and depression and can improve sleep quality plus increase sleep quality and reduce muscle tension or tremors. Valerian is a nervine that helps reestablish balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. This pungent root extract is a well-known ally for reducing anxiety and supporting restful sleep. Valerian promotes balance in the system while relieving pain, calming anxiety, and relaxing skeletal muscles.
