Blenders Notes Peachy Ginger:
Gunpowder Tea (zhÅ« chá; ‘pearl tea’)is named for the fact that its visual appearance resembles that of gunpowder. The tea leaves are specially selected for quality, size, and style so that they can be individually rolled by hand and according to tradition by experienced tea experts into very small, tight pellets. Gunpowder tea production dates back to the Tang dynasty (618–907). Green Gunpowder is made when green tea leaves that are being processed into gunpowder tea are withered first, then steamed, rolled into pellet shape, and dried. This Green Gunpowder is a well-known Chinese green tea, native to Zhejiang Province, in the eastern coast of China. Gunpowder tea usually keeps for much longer than other tea and is favored because of this characteristic.
Green Gunpowder tea is high in polyphenols, which act as antioxidants to combat oxidative stress in the body. These compounds help neutralize free radicals, promoting overall health. Temple of Heaven Gunpowder is one of the highest grades of Gunpowder tea, known for its smooth taste and higher quality leaves. It’s often less bitter and has a more refined flavor profile. Gunpowder tea has a bold, slightly smoky flavor with a hint of earthiness. It is stronger than most other green teas due to its tightly rolled leaves. The flavor profile included grassy and vegetal notes giving is a refreshing quality. It is mildly astringent and has a slight tanginess balanced by it subtle mineral notes.
When preparing this tea, part of the ritual is to take a pinch of the gunpowder tea and drop it into a porcelain cup to hear the jingle and tinkle of the leaves hitting the sides. Boiling water causes them to open up like flowers and sink slowly to the bottom in graceful patterns, which adds a dimension of visual pleasure to drinking this tea. This tea produces a nice dark infusion and a pleasantly aromatic, slightly smoky, full-bodied taste.
This tea can be steeped with cooler water to make a very light cup of tea. Many people enjoy it with very hot water and long steeped increasing its astringency and flavor making a strong cup of tea with a bit of smokiness to it. We have added pieces of Ginger and Peach to make this a flavorful blend with a hint of fruit!

When talking about the many types of tea, Green tea is the most common and the most recognized tea beverage and it is the easiest to find. Â The primary countries that export Green Tea are Japan – lighter green teas and China – darker more robust green teas where for both countries Green Tea is a celebrated beverage! Â We carry a full line of teas from both countries. We have lots of selection and the customer can choose the strength level they prefer in their tea. Much of the differences in the strength of Green Tea does come from processing of the lea leaves. Â
The teas from Japan are usually milder in flavor and produce a faint tan cup of tea and are machine processed.  If you are new to the tea world – Japanese green teas are lighter on the palate and are a great place to start. The teas from China tend to be stronger and more astringent that those from Japan and are hand processed.  We pair many of our stronger flavors with the Chinese green teas. The Peach and Mint combos we have are done with a strong Gunpowder Green tea allowing the flavors to balance when making a cup of tea. We don’t want the flavor of the tea to supersede the wonderful taste of the high quality green tea it is paired with. Â
Many of the tea leaves will go through a steaming or pan firing process. Â Â This process will stop oxidation and keep them in the Green Tea Family. Then the leaves are dried in large rollers or fan belts bringing you the final distinctive product depending the tea you choose. Â The tea leaves will have a beautiful green color and will have some texture and suppleness to the leaves. We carry Sencha, Dragonwell, Gunpowder and Kukicha as a few options.
