Blenders Notes Dougie Dance Coffee Chai:

What is Chai?  Chai is tea with a personality upgrade. Instead of plain leaves in hot water, its black tea is dressed up with milk, sweetener, and a spice squad—ginger for zing, cardamom for sweetness, cinnamon for warmth, and cloves for depth. Any many other add-ins to make each blend take on its own personality.  Basically, it’s tea that decides to throw a block party in your mug.  People love it because it is ~ Creamy and cozy, but with enough spice to wake up your senses ~ In many countries chai isn’t just a drink—it’s how people connect, gossip, and pause life for a moment ~ Many places have turned Chai into the “chai latte,” but at its core, it’s still the same spiced hug in a cup!!  What is Chai…In America – this specialized blend has become known as a “taste” of tea with predominantly cinnamon or cardamom notes and pairs well with dairy.   Cardamom is the most common ingredient, followed by some mixture of cinnamon, ginger, star anise and cloves. Pepper, coriander, nutmeg and fennel are also used, but they are slightly less common.

In this blend we did something crazy!  Perfect combo of Coffee and Chai! It is based off of Organic Freeze-Dried Arabica Coffee.  Then we added in the Chai spices focusing on Cardamon, Cinnamon and Ginger!  Plus, we made it creamy naturally!  Organic Freeze-Dried Yogurt to give is a wonderful creamy taste without any yucky ingredients!  Give this blend a try…it’s all you would love in a Chai with a kick in the pants with the Freeze-Dried Coffee!  Vroom! Vroom!  Check out his sister tea Izadora Shuffle – A great tasting Chai ~ Coffee with an astringent Black Tea added for a more complex flavor – and no dairy!

Rooibos is a very unique type of tea…and it actually isn’t a part of the Camellia Sinensis plant at all.  Rooibos comes from a shrub Aspalathus linearis that  is a part of the legume family (e.g. peas, beans and peanuts) and grows to about four feet high and looks like a sagebrush. Since the 1700’s, Rooibos has been grown primarily from the mountainous Cederberg region of South Africa’s Western Cape.  This tea will have slightly red color and will have a slightly sweet taste.

Most of the harvest for Rooibos is done during the Summer months.  The two types of Rooibos are Green and Red. The Green Rooibos is simply a plucked leaf that is dried and packaged.  This has a more mild taste and a beautiful green color. The most popular is Red Rooibos (its namesake) and is plucked, fermented and oxidized giving it its rich red color.  This version is a very creamy and sweeter taste. However, both versions of Rooibos have their own set of antioxidants and offer many health benefits.

Pu erh is also very forgiving when steeping, you can steep the leaves with boiling water for 10 minutes or several hours because it will not get bitter.  The flavor of Rooibos will get richer and creamier with longer steep times.
